Prom Theme:  The seniors have spoken and the theme will be Met Gala: Wind, Water, Earth, Fire.

Senior Dates:  They are listed on the RHS website under Student Services.  The list is pretty comprehensive, but additional dates could be placed on the list as we know more.  Regardless, this should help you plan accordingly for this point of the year.

RALEIGH-WAKE CIVIL AIR PATROL invites students and families to an OPEN HOUSE on Sunday, September 9, from noon until 3 p.m. at the NCDOT Division of Aviation at RDU Airport.  Learn about opportunities for flying, leadership development, scholarships, and more. Sit in a plane and learn how to flight plan a real mission!  This is a great opportunity if you are interested in aviation. Free parking and refreshments will be available.

ASVAB:  The ASVAB will be administered on Friday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 in the media center.  This 3-hour career aptitude test is beneficial for all students, as well as those who plan to join the military.  THE DEADLINE TO SIGN UP is Wednesday (Sept. 12) at noon.   Juniors or seniors may sign up in Student Services or in 3508.

ACE MENTOR PROGRAM:  For students interested in architecture, engineering, or construction, there is a year-long, 15-session opportunity beginning now through March for students to mentor with industry professionals.  Check it out at https://vimeo.com/272244502.  See Mrs. McPherson in 3508 if interested.

PSAT:  WCPSS administers the PSAT to 11th graders during the school day on a voluntary basis.  This assessment is not required, but it is helpful to prepare for the SAT. It will be administered county-wide on October 10th.   The cost is $16 and can be paid by September 10th through the RHS Online School Payments tab.  Eleventh grade students with a weighted GPA of 4.313 qualify for a free test and do not need to register.  There will be a separate form that those students must fill out in order to confirm. This test provides practice for the SAT and offers insight in advising and counseling students.

Volunteers Needed for Rolesville BBQ and Bands - Sept. 15th:  Need help Friday night and Saturday...Great opportunity to get volunteer experience.  The Sign-up Genius is linked in the Rolesville Chamber of Commerce webpage. Volunteers will get a tee shirt.  I would love to see our students repping for the Rams!

From Child Nutrition Services:  “WCPSS Child Nutrition Services wants you to know that you can now apply online to qualify for free and reduced price school meals.  Go online to https://www.wcpss.net/meals to determine if you qualify and complete the online application. To help you, we've shared application information, frequently asked questions and the online application. Families may also visit their school where paper applications will be available.”

Important Request from the Staff Regarding Use of Electronics:  The staff at Rolesville High School is committed to providing our students with experiences that will prepare them to successfully meet course requirements, to understand course content and apply the skills that should be learned in our respective classes.  To that end, we ask both students and parents for your support regarding appropriate use of electronic devices at school.

Certainly, there are times when students are permitted to enjoy their own devices such as before school, during lunch and after school.  Students are also invited to utilize their own devices if parent and teacher permission are granted as part of the learning experience. This said, staff desire to spend their time devoted to support of student learning, not management of student discipline related to electronic devices.  We discussed our concerns regarding lost instructional time due to management of electronics and feel that we need to ask for parental support as we start the year. We know that students want and need to use their devices, but we also must have common ground regarding our purpose as a school and the parameters when it should be appropriately used.

Please talk with your Ram to make sure he or she understands that we are here for him or her and we want to have a productive year without unnecessary complications from inappropriate use of electronics.  We deeply desire to make RHS the GREAT learning community it CAN be. We can only achieve this through respect for our common goals and one another.
