Board of Education's Proposed 2026-27 Budget

On May 5, the Board of Education approved its Proposed Budget for the 2026-27 school year. It includes a proposed increase of $25.3 million in local funding, as well as strategic spending reductions to balance the budget. The budget proposal has been sent to the Wake County Board of Commissioners for consideration. A final budget is expected to be approved on June 1.

Our Board of Education's 2026 short session agenda focuses on making sure public schools have the resources needed to provide every child with a high-quality education. It also includes specific policy updates that can be addressed during the NC General Assembly’s short session. This work builds on last year’s broader priorities and keeps attention on key issues such as fair funding, support for educators, and giving schools the flexibility to meet local needs.
