47 Magnet Schools win National Merit Awards, 14 named Top Schools of Excellence

Congratulations to 47 of our magnet schools that were honored by Magnet Schools of America (MSA) with National Merit Awards! Fourteen schools were named Top Schools of Excellence, ten named Schools of Excellence and 23 named Schools of Distinction. This makes the highest number of Excellence awards WCPSS has ever received in one year.

 

To receive a national merit award, schools must submit a detailed application that is scored by a panel of educators. These schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation and diversity efforts, and consistent delivery of high quality educational services to all stakeholders.

 

Magnet School of Excellence Awards are given to a select group of magnet schools that have demonstrated the highest level of excellence in all facets of the merit award application. Of those schools, a select few are designated as being in the top tier and receive the Top School of Excellence award. 

 

Magnet School of Distinction Awards are given to magnet schools that have met all the requirements outlined in the merit awards scoring rubric.
