• Business Partnerships

Your business can join others, civic organizations, and higher education institutions in providing relevant, realistic experiences that help students see the connection between academic success today and career success tomorrow. The Wake County School-to-Career program is supported by a volunteer council and aligned with our Career-Technical Education curriculum.

    Business Alliances

Middle and high school-based business alliances are partnerships between business leaders and educators to help every student make responsible, productive career choices by assisting with activities at school and in the workplace. Business Alliances get involved with career fairs, practice job interviews, discussions about business ethics, field trips, site tours, internships, guest speaking and resumé reviews to mention a few.

    Career Academy Advisory Boards

Our Career Academies are smaller learning communities within a school that focus on a career area, integrate that theme within the core curriculum, and provide internships. Each academy has an advisory board comprised of volunteers from businesses and higher education related to that career theme.

    Career Advisory Teams

Business and post-secondary volunteer leaders meet regularly to support WCPSS in enhancing our connections between school and career for each of 16 career clusters from agriculture to finance to transportation.

    Work-based learning

Whether through internships, formal apprenticeships, cooperative education, or short-term work experiences, you can provide our students with meaningful real-world preparation for their future careers. Work-based learning happens away from the student's school and may be paid or unpaid depending on the activity.

We provide liability coverage for all students who participate in officially recognized, pre-approved work-based learning activities. Our Career Development Coordinators at our middle and high schools oversee work-based learning, and will be happy to talk to you about the opportunities and requirements.

  • Great Xplorations Career Fair (register)

    Wednesday, October 23

    9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

    NC State University McKimmon Center

The purpose of this event is to provide students with the opportunity to obtain emerging and non-traditional career information, understand the importance of and practice networking, and learn about wellness and coping skills for personal and career success.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for the “Networking 101- Get Connected” session.  We all know that making the right connections can help you get your foot in the door and this session is sure to be a fun, active way for students to make many initial connections that could lead to bigger opportunities.

As a business volunteer in this session, you will be responsible for helping students develop their networking skills by leading small groups through speed-networking rotations. Students will practice their “elevator pitch” and/or power greeting to make a great first impression. In addition, we will have a mini-networking session for the business volunteers before the student rounds begin, so be sure to bring your business cards to exchange.

Register to volunteer by October 9!
