Wake County Board of Education District 4 Vacancy

  • The District 4 Board seat is vacant on the Wake County Board of Education. Eligible citizens interested in serving on the Wake County Board of Education are required to submit all of the following to be considered:

    1. A letter of interest, no more than 5 pages, outlining the candidate's background and listing three initiatives that can be implemented in the Board’s next Strategic Plan.
    2. A resume. 
    3. Three letters of recommendation.
    4. Proof of domicile* in District 4.  Specifically, an applicant must submit a voter registration document AND a current water, gas, or electric bill that is no more than 30 days old establishing domicile in District 4.  If you are domiciled in the district, but are not able to provide the utility bill, please notify us at district4vacancy@wcpss.net so that we can communicate with you about other acceptable proof of domicile.

    All of these documents must be received by 5 p.m. on February 2, 2024

    Applicants shall meet all the requirements for holding this office, including being 21 and being domiciled in District 4.  

    Appointment to the seat will be for the remainder of the term, expiring in December 2024.

    *Pursuant to Board Policy 4100 – “Domicile” denotes a permanent, established home, as distinguished from a temporary place of residence.  A person may have more than one residence but only one legal domicile.  To establish a new domicile, a person must abandon the prior domicile and move into a new residence with the intent to make the new residence his or her new home.  Merely owning or renting property does not establish a legal domicile.
