Intervention Services
Our Intervention Services team partners with schools and communities to provide research-based support that meets each student’s academic and behavioral needs.
What we believe
- High-quality instruction and effective interventions help all students prepare for college and careers.
- Data-driven decisions create strong learning environments.
- Culturally responsive practices promote equity.
- Continuous professional learning improves student success.
- Strong partnerships among schools, families, and communities support achievement.
Community programs
Many WCPSS and community programs support student growth, including:
- Foster Grandparents
- Y-Learning
- Y-Achievers
- Read and Feed
These programs are available at schools with specific needs.
Intervention plans
North Carolina requires Personal Education Plans (PEPs) for students at risk of academic failure. Each plan must:
- Outline clear goals and performance benchmarks.
- Use evidence-based strategies.
- Be shared with families.
- Include parents in planning, implementation, and review.
Intervention teams
Every Wake County school has an Intervention Team. Teams use a problem-solving approach and data to support each student.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
PBIS is a research-based framework that helps schools create positive learning environments. Schools using PBIS often see:
-
Improved school climate.
-
Fewer discipline referrals and suspensions.
-
Greater parent and community satisfaction.
-
Stronger support for student behavior.
What is PBIS?
PBIS teaches and supports positive behavior in all settings. Schools focus on:
-
Defining expectations.
-
Teaching desired behaviors.
-
Providing consistent support.
PBIS School Expectations
Each PBIS school:
-
Clearly posts expectations.
-
Recognizes positive behavior.
-
Uses logical consequences to help students improve.
PBIS at home
Families can use PBIS strategies at home. Schools share common expectations that help create consistent routines.
