Ribbon cuttings for new school buildings are always an occasion for shared celebration. These events bring together students, school leaders, teachers and staff along with members of our design and construction teams, parents and partners from the county and the broader community. We come together to celebrate the innovative and collaborative new learning spaces we are opening for students and staff.

While these are wonderful events that showcase our strong partnerships, the most exciting part of my morning at Millbrook Magnet Middle this week was hearing directly from the students regarding what they love about their new learning environment.

This new facility opened to students and staff in August of 2022 so many Wildcat learners and educators alike have had a year to grow and thrive in this new facility. It was inspiring to join them on a school tour and see their shared pride in their new gym, collaborative work areas, outdoor spaces and the cutting-edge technology now available in classrooms across their campus.

Days like this one would not be possible without support from our County Commissioners. They have made it a priority to continue to support the renovation of existing schools and the construction of new facilities across our county. We are also appreciative to the citizens of Wake County who supported the  most recent school bond. This bond will support the rebuilding of seven existing schools as well as the construction of five new schools on new sites.

Thanks to your support and commitment to our students, we will be celebrating together at ribbon cuttings for many years to come. But more importantly, our students and staff will have learning spaces that they are proud to call home. These spaces will inspire and engage our learners every day as they prepare for bright futures.

With gratitude,

Dr. Robert P. Taylor
