WCPSS comes together to support Hurricane Helene relief efforts

Communities throughout Western North Carolina have been severely impacted by Hurricane Helene. Affected families and school staff will need support as they deal with the aftermath of the storm in the coming days and weeks. We invite you to support these communities by taking part in relief efforts happening at schools throughout WCPSS. This is an active list and will be updated as more schools organize events.

 

The North Carolina Association of School Administrators has compiled a list of resources to assist anyone affected by Hurricane Helene or looking to aid relief efforts. The list includes options for financial donations and volunteer opportunities.

 

Apex Friendship Middle School

7701 Humie Olive Road, Apex

AFMS Chargers are collecting essential supplies that can be delivered to the main office during regular school hours.

Davis Drive Middle will be collecting items to support the relief efforts in Western NC, and has partnered with Armstrong Relocation to transport a 50 ft. supply trailer directly to the Reynolds Volunteer Fire Department in Asheville, NC. Please donate essential supplies from the list below:

FVMS is working with Operation Airdrop, an organization that brings together pilots with private helicopters/small airplanes to get supplies to the areas in desperate need.

Note: Operation Airdrop cannot accept cases of water or other drinks due to weight restrictions.

Heritage Middle School

Heritage Middle School will be collecting donations. Please help support the relief efforts in Western NC after Hurricane Helene. The Wake Forest Fire Department is asking for donations of the items listed on their website. Items will be collected at HMS and delivered to the WF Fire Department. Collection bins will be available during morning and afternoon carpool to drop off donations October 2-11.

 

Holly Springs Elementary School

From Monday October 7 to Friday October 11, HSES is collecting non-perishable foods for donation as well as other priority supplies. Please drop off any donations to the front office between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Jeffreys Grove Magnet Elementary PTA is organizing an In-School WNC Relief Drive to collect hygiene and baby products, as well as canned food and dry goods. The newly installed 5th grade student council will be assisting in this effort. Donation boxes will be set up to leave items in front of the Eagle mural near the front office.

 

If you prefer to drop off donations in person, please bring them to our PTA Members Family Fun Night on October 18th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

 

Items most needed include:

• Disinfecting Wipes

• Canned Food – Soups, Meat, Vegetables

• Dry Goods – Cereal, Crackers, etc.

 

The PTA is coordinating with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC to ensure that donations reach the Manna Food Bank, which serves the 16 counties of WNC most impacted by the hurricane.

 

Joyner ES

Joyner Elementary will be collecting items for hurricane relief as an action for our IB PYP learners. JYJoyner will be collecting the items listed below by grade level for delivery to Operation Airdrop. Our students believe in the community and have used their agency to decide how we can help support as a school community. Please support our students' efforts in community action for our friends in Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene.

The Knightdale High Student Council and FFA are organizing a drive to collect non-perishable items, toiletries and hygiene products, flashlights, batteries, tools and toolkits, baby wipes, diapers, formula, first aid supplies, gently used and washed or new clothes, paper products and pet food. Whether it’s donating essential supplies or simply spreading the word, every effort makes a meaningful difference to those affected. Lufkin Road Middle School

Richland Creek ES

Richland Creek Elementary will be partnering with Wake Forest Fire Department for donations to support Hurricane Helene Relief operations.

Going along with our Homecoming theme, Wakefield High School will be spreading warmth to our western NC neighbors. Monday, October 7 through Thursday, October 10 at 3 p.m., we will be accepting donations of new, unopened packaged socks (any size) to be delivered to the NC mountains. A donation box will also be at the stadium for home games next week. Admission to the Powder Puff game on Wednesday will be a pack of socks or $5.

 

Wake Forest Magnet Elementary School

WFHS Student Government Association is taking donations to help with Hurricane Helene relief efforts. Items will be taken to a collection site in the Town of Wake Forest to be distributed in impacted areas of Western Carolina by the Wake Forest Fire Department. We have two collection dates, October 4th and 11th. Please drop off any donations to the front office during regular school hours.

 

West Lake Elementary School

4500 West Lake Road, Apex

Ongoing, Mondays-Fridays 7:30-2:00

 

West Lake Elementary is collecting donations of priority items:

  • Non-perishable food (canned goods, pre-packaged snacks, baby food, MRES, etc.)

  • Bottled water and Gatorade

  • Cleaning supplies (mops, disinfectants, trash bags, Clorox wipes, paper towels)

  • Hygiene supplies (toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, sanitary products)

  • Baby supplies (diapers, wipes, formula)

  • Pet food and supplies
