Willow Springs Elementary named 2024 National Blue Ribbon School

Sep. 23, 2024

Willow Springs Elementary was one of 356 schools across the country recognized as 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona made the announcement Monday afternoon.  The National Blue Ribbon Program recognizes schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups. These schools serve as models of effective and innovative school practices.

“We are deeply honored to receive the prestigious 2024 National Blue Ribbon Award,” said Principal Camille Miller. “This recognition is a true reflection of the unwavering dedication of our remarkable staff, whose passion for student success and commitment to fostering an engaging, supportive environment inspire me daily. It also speaks to the trust and support we receive from our incredible community, enabling us to cultivate a strong, vibrant culture rooted in care, respect, and love for every student. Together, we’ve built a place where every child is valued, challenged, and encouraged to thrive. The Willow is more than a school; it’s a community where both students and adults are excited to come each day, and we are profoundly grateful for this honor.”

More about the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program

National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective school practices for state and district educators and other schools throughout the nation. A National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing a school’s entryway or on a flagpole is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.

Schools are recognized in both or either of two performance categories:

  • Exemplary High Performing Schools: These schools are among the top performers in their state as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

  • Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools: These schools excel in narrowing achievement gaps between different student groups and the overall student body.

Up to 420 schools may be nominated each year. The U.S. Department of Education invites nominations for the National Blue Ribbon Schools award from the top education official in all states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and the Bureau of Indian Education. Private schools are nominated by the Council for American Private Education. Learn more about the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program.
