Record Number of Nationally Certified Teachers

Congratulations to 158 WCPSS teachers - a record number - who have earned National Board Certification according to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. 

 

In addition, 192 teachers who already had received their National Board Certification earned renewal of their certifications.

For the 14th consecutive year, our district has the highest number of National Board Certified teachers in the nation. More than 2,900 teachers have achieved this milestone while working in our district. This success is thanks in part to the support we provide to candidates at every step of the process, from initial candidacy through renewal.



 

Seeking National Board Certification is a rigorous process that requires teachers to analyze their teaching practices and impact on student learning, to take on leadership roles and to collaborate with their peers. It takes a significant commitment of time outside the teacher’s regular classroom responsibilities.

 

Once a candidate becomes a National Board Certified Teacher, he or she is eligible for a 12 percent pay increase from the state. National Board Certification must be renewed every five years.

 

Statewide, 1,421 teachers achieved board certification in teaching in 2019.


 

Our district also is the first in the nation to partner with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to create a program designed to support third-year teachers as they prepare to pursue board certification. In the district’s Beginner to Board-Certified program, participants attend professional development sessions throughout the year as a cohort and move together through the certification process starting in the fourth year of their career. 

 

Seeking National Board Certification demands significant time and effort. The rigorous process requires teachers to analyze their teaching practices and impact on student learning, to take on leadership roles and to collaborate with their peers.

Newly certified teachers, along with those receiving renewals this year, will be honored at a celebration in March.

NÚMERO RECORD DE MAESTROS CON CERTIFICACIÓN AL NIVEL NACIONAL

 

Felicitaciones a 158 maestros de WCPSS, un número récord, que han logrado National Board Certification (la certificación para maestros al nivel nacional) de acuerdo con la National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (Consejo Nacional para la Normativa de la Enseñanza Profesional). 

 

Además, 192 maestros que ya habían recibido su National Board Certification obtuvieron la renovación de sus certificaciones.

Por el 14º año consecutivo, nuestro distrito escolar tiene el mayor número de maestros con National Board Certification en la nación. Más de 2,900 maestros han obtenido este logro mientras trabajan en nuestro distrito escolar. Este éxito se debe en parte al apoyo que brindamos a los candidatos en cada paso del proceso, desde la candidatura inicial hasta la renovación de la certificación.

 

Obtener la National Board Certification es un proceso riguroso que requiere que los maestros analicen sus prácticas de enseñanza y el impacto de las mismas en el aprendizaje de los estudiantes, asuman papeles de liderazgo y colaboren con sus colegas. Se necesita de un compromiso significativo de tiempo fuera de las responsabilidades regulares del maestro en el aula.

 

Una vez que un candidato obtiene la National Board Certification, él o ella es elegible para un aumento salarial del 12 por ciento por parte del estado. Dicha certificación debe renovarse cada cinco años.

 

Un total de 1,421 maestros obtuvieron la National Board Certification en enseñanza en todo el estado.

 

Nuestro distrito escolar es además el primero en la nación en asociarse con la National Board for Professional Teaching Standards para crear un programa diseñado para apoyar a los maestros en su tercer año de ejercicio profesional, mientras se preparan para obtener la National Board Certification. En el programa Beginner to Board-Certified del distrito escolar (desde la candidatura hasta la obtención de la certificación), los participantes asisten a sesiones de desarrollo profesional durante todo el año como un grupo y avanzan juntos a través del proceso de certificación que comienza en el cuarto año de su carrera profesional. 

 

Obtener la National Board Certification es un proceso que exige mucho tiempo y esfuerzo. El riguroso proceso requiere que los maestros analicen sus prácticas docentes y su impacto en el aprendizaje de los estudiantes, asuman papeles de liderazgo y colaboren con sus colegas.

 

Los maestros recién certificados, junto con los que reciben renovaciones este año, serán honrados en una celebración en el mes de marzo.
