Enloe Magnet High alumni and students excelled at the recent International Leadership Conference hosted by HOSA, an organization that aims to inspire students to become leaders in global health.

Enloe alumni made history by having the International President of HOSA come from the same state and the same school for three years in a row.

In addition, three Enloe students placed in the top 10, and six placed in the top 30, in competitive events focusing on leadership, professional, and technical skills.

Executive Council Election

The conference, which was held in Dallas, included elections for the HOSA executive council.

Nicholas Ballard, Enloe Magnet High Class of 2022, was elected President-Elect and will serve as International President in 2024-25.

He will succeed Anna Feng, Enloe Magnet High Class of 2020, who was elected last year to serve as the 2023-24 International President.

She follows Kartik Tyagi, Enloe Magnet High Class of 2019, who served as International President from 2022-23.

Tyagi says: "It has been a true honor and privilege to have served HOSA-Future Health Professionals as International President from 2022-23. However, my HOSA journey started in a health science classroom at Enloe High School in Raleigh, North Carolina in August 2015 as a first-year high school student. As an involved student in both the Medical BioScience Academy and HOSA-Future Health Professionals, my time at Enloe prepared me for what I truly wanted to pursue – and equipped me with the skill sets to succeed and achieve my goals. The lessons I learned while at Enloe stuck with me during my time at UNC-Chapel Hill as a Morehead-Cain Scholar, and now as a Senior Strategist for Policy and Communications at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. I owe it to where it all began – back in Mrs. Benicia Ledford’s classroom in the 600 hallway of William G. Enloe Magnet High School."

International Competition

Enloe Magnet High had three students place in the top 10 and six in the top 30 at the International level:

  • Diya Menon placed 2nd in Pathophysiology
  • Shreyan Kancharla placed 5th in Dental Terminology
  • Pushpit Maggo placed 5th in Medical Spelling
  • Celeste Samuel placed top 30 in Clinical Nursing
  • Abigail Savitsky placed top 30 Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Pranavi Dantuluri Hafsa Bokhari and Varun Govindarajan placed top 30 in Biomedical Debate
  • Anusha Gupta placed top 30 in Physical Therapy

Enloe HOSA President Celeste Samuel says: “HOSA has been one of my favorite parts of high school and one of the main factors in my decision to pursue a healthcare career. Not only is it a competition, but it’s also an amazing way for students to learn skills they’ll use now or in the future as health professionals. The fact that we have three Enloe alumni as International HOSA presidents show our dedication to HOSA and the healthcare field. Enloe always does well in our HOSA competitions and I am proud and excited to be able to lead such an amazing group next year!”

"HOSA is a great organization if you’re looking to meet new people and there are so many events to choose from depending on your interests and possible career paths. I would recommend it to anyone interested in pursuing a medical career," said Enloe Magnet High student Pushpit Maggo.
