First cohort launches district’s Equity Leadership Development pathways
On Sept. 30 and Oct. 3, nearly 200 WCPSS leaders came together for the first sessions of the district’s Equity Leadership Development pathways.
The first cohort, made up of the Superintendent’s Leadership Team (SLT), Senior Directors, Directors, Area Superintendent Senior Administrators, and a Pilot Cohort of Principals, launched this series of professional learning that connects to our strategic plan and equity policy.
Participants had the opportunity to take a self-assessment and self-identity inventory and then choose a learning pathway that was most applicable to their needs. The goal for the Equity Leadership Development is to ensure all Central Services and school-based leaders have skills needed to lead others in equity work. By supporting our leaders in this way, we intend to build equity leadership capacity to effectively support schools, staff, and, ultimately, students.
The leaders were provided with intentional, equity-focused, and comprehensive professional learning content that aligns with Policy 1150 (Equity) and the 2023-28 Strategic Plan (AIMS 4, 5, 10, 13) to ensure every school and department has the foundational through intensive skills needed to lead others in equity work.
The sessions were led by a group of facilitators who work for WCPSS in various capacities, and bring expertise from their respective fields and their work in equity affairs.
Following the professional learning days, there will be extended learning opportunities that will allow these individuals to apply what they have learned to their day-to-day work, no matter their department or role. There are three more scheduled in-person learning sessions for the first cohort.
