School-Based Positions
Basic Operations Support for School-Based Staff
- Food preparation (entrees, vegetables, salads, side dishes, and a-la-carte items)
- Accurate documentation of food counts
- Collecting cash payments and completing point-of-sale transactions on cash register
- Cleaning and sanitation of kitchen and cafeteria
- Putting away deliveries and lifting/moving objects up to 50 lbs
- Effective communication
- Friendly interaction with students, faculty, school staff, and co-workers
- Participating in regular job training
Primary Functions of Various School-Based Positions
- Cashier Assistant (grade 17): Prepares/packages food and sets up service lines and completes
documentation on meals and other items served along with cash collections - Transporter (grade 18): Delivers and serves meals and other items at satellite locations
- Assistant Manager (grade 18) : Assists with management of a school cafeteria and provides
leadership and manages the school cafeteria in the absence of the CNS Manager - Manager Trainee (grade 18): Serves in a training role to learn and become proficient in the
direct administration of food production, customer service, and sound fiscal control in
preparation for placement into a Manager position - Cafe Manager (various - grades 19-24): Provides direct management in a school cafeteria in the
areas of food production, customer service, cash handling and inventory
Base Qualifications for all School-Based Positions
- Must be 18 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to read and write in English and perform basic mathematical calculations
- Ability to read and follow recipes and work in a time-efficient manner
- Physically able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 40 lbs
- Must be able to spend the majority of the work day standing and/or walking
- Critical thinking and problem solving
- Foodservice and money handling experience preferred but not required

Central Warehouse Positions
Driver (Grade 19)
Delivers food, supplies, and equipment for child nutrition operations to schools in a large delivery truck and performs work related to warehouse receiving and order pick-up.
Driver Qualifications
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina
requirements and be able to drive a large delivery truck - Within 60 days of employment, successfully complete Child Nutrition Services food safety training
- Within 90 days of employment complete training and certification requirements as a forklift operator
- Must be 18 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to read and write in English and perform basic mathematical calculations
- Physically able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 40 lbs
- Must be able to spend the majority of the workday standing and/or walking
- Ability to work independently and with limited supervision
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina
