Kortney Shearin
I am originally from Cary, NC and graduated from Apex High School. I attended Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC where I discovered how many amazing things there are to learn about in our world. I graduated with a BA, majoring in both German and Sociology. Shortly thereafter, I got an international TEFL certificate to teach English abroad. I have had the opportunity to live in Europe and South America, allowing me to follow my passion for experiencing different cultures and learn to speak German, French, and Spanish. When I returned to the States, I got my NC Licensure through NCSU in English as a Second Language and Elementary Education. I then moved to New York City for about 6 years, but I returned to Raleigh in 2011. Though I have traveled to many places, Raleigh is my true home. My goal is to never stop learning and growing, so I earned National Board Certification in 2019. Before coming to Centennial in 2021, I taught ESL to pre-K through adult students as well as 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. My two 'kids' (high school & college) keep me busy, but in my free time, you will find me knitting, reading, cooking, solving puzzles, traveling, enjoying local festivals & events, or going for a walk outdoors.
