Apply for a Camp WCPSS Special Education Position!

  • If you are not employed during the time period when our Camp WCPSS Summer Learning programs are taking place (June 15 - July 31 with some exceptions to these dates for modified and year-round calendars), you are encouraged to apply for special education teacher and instructional assistant positions. Categories and the number of certified and non-certified positions available will vary by site. Currently, more than 130 Camp WCPSS sites will operate across the district. 

     

    Critical Needs

    We are currently recruiting specifically for special education teachers and instructional assistants. Candidates must hold a current NC Professional Educator's license in an Exceptional Children's teaching area (not including licenses in Academically or Intellectually Gifted areas.)

    • Summer Camp Teacher/Counselor - Elementary - 2021 (includes CCR and ECS)
    • Summer Camp Instructional Assistant - Elementary- 2021 (includes CCR and ECS)
    • Summer Camp Teacher/Counselor - High School - 2021 (includes CCR, ECS and OCS )
    • Summer Camp Teacher/Counselor - Middle School - 2021 (includes CCR and ECS)
    • Summer Camp Instructional Assistant, Special Education - Middle/High Schools - 2021 (includes CCR, ECS and OCS at high schools only)

    You will select your desired Camp WCPSS site location during the application process. Summer Learning site administrators will contact you if you are selected for an interview.

     

    Salary and Bonuses

    The following hourly salaries and bonuses were approved by the Board on May 18 and will be available for staff hired to support Camp WCPSS:
     

    Certified Employees

    • $45/hour or certified hourly rate if higher
      • See p.15 of the 2020-21 Teacher Salary Schedule and divide daily rate by 8.
    • Legislated signing bonus of $1200
      • For National Board teachers or recipients of state reading bonus in grades 3-5 or a math bonus in grades 4-8
    • Legislated performance bonus for 3rd grade teachers
      • $150 per student - based on a student reaching proficiency
    • WCPSS attendance bonus of up to $1200
      • $400 for 3 weeks (or one 2-week year-round session)
      • Additional $800 for full 6 weeks

     

    Non-Certified Employees (including Instructional Assistants)

    • $20/hour or non-certified hourly rate if higher
    • WCPSS attendance bonus of up to $1200
      • $400 for 3 weeks (or one 2-week year-round session)
      • Additional $800 for full 6 weeks

     

    Position Details


    The Special Education Teacher and IA positions noted above are currently posted in AppliTrack with the corresponsing job descriptions. Employees will be hired via temporary contract and will work up to 40 hours per week.
