• National Board Certification

The Wake County Public School System is proud to support teachers working toward National Board Certification, a nationally respected mark of accomplished teaching.

For nearly 30 years, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards has set high expectations for what excellent teachers should know and be able to do. More than 125,000 educators across the country have achieved certification, including over 3,000 in Wake County.

WCPSS consistently ranks among the top districts in the U.S. for the number of National Board Certified Teachers. That success is thanks in part to the support we provide from start to finish, whether you're an initial National Board candidate, an NBCT completing the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process, or a beginning teacher contemplating your future National Board Certification journey.

    Why Certification Matters

    • Certified teachers in North Carolina earn a 12% salary supplement. For eligibility details, see the NC Department of Public Instruction.
    • Students benefit from stronger teaching. Research shows that National Board Certified Teachers positively impact student learning.
    • Professional growth and leadership. The Board certification process helps teachers reflect on practice, measure their impact, and collaborate with peers.
