Academy of Engineering and Information Technology Students Explore Innovation at Microsoft Headquarters
Students from Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School’s IT Academy had an unforgettable experience exploring the heart of innovation at Microsoft’s headquarters in Cary, NC. This incredible trip allowed our students from SRMHS, to witness firsthand the technological advancements and career opportunities within one of the world’s most influential tech companies.
The tour, generously hosted by Blacks at Microsoft (BAM), a resource group focused on fostering diversity and inclusion within the tech community, provided a behind-the-scenes look at how Microsoft is pushing the boundaries of technology. BAM members shared their personal career stories and explained how they navigated their paths in tech, offering our students invaluable advice and inspiration.
During the tour, our students learned about Microsoft’s pioneering products—like Windows, Azure, and Xbox—and explored how the company is shaping the future of industries ranging from cloud computing and artificial intelligence to cybersecurity and data science. The visit also gave our students a deeper understanding of Microsoft’s core values and commitment to inclusion, collaboration, and innovation.
The trip also highlighted the diverse career paths available in IT, including software engineering, data analysis, and cybersecurity. Students were encouraged to think beyond traditional tech roles and explore areas such as business operations, marketing, and design—fields where tech skills are increasingly in demand.
As our students return from Cary, NC, with newfound excitement and motivation, they are more eager than ever to continue their studies in IT and explore the endless possibilities the tech world has to offer. Thanks to BAM and Microsoft, this trip has sparked a passion for innovation that will inspire our students for years to come.
