Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School Receives National Recognition from Project Lead The Way for Commitment to Empowering Students
Named a distinguished school for STEM curriculum and career readiness
Raleigh, North Carolina – Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School announced today that it has been recognized as a 2023-24 Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School. It is one of just a few hundred high schools across the U.S. to receive this honor for providing broad access to transformative learning experiences for students through c. PLTW is a national nonprofit organization that serves millions of PreK-12 students and teachers in over 12,200 schools across the U.S., aiming to make every student in every grade STEM successful.

The PLTW Distinguished School recognition honors schools committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. To be eligible for the designation, Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School had to meet multiple criteria in the 2022-23 school year such as the number of PLTW courses available to students, percentage of students enrolled in PLTW, percentage of students taking more than one PLTW course, and efforts to ensure equitable access to PLTW courses.

About School Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School
SRMHS is a comprehensive magnet with the theme University Connections: School of Design, Arts & Engineering. WCPSS is recognized as one of the best school systems statewide and nationally.
The student body consists of seventy percent base students (assigned) and thirty percent magnet students (application). The school's enrollment is approximately 1,600 students in grades 9-12 and a faculty of 143 professionals. The school is on a modified calendar track. The school year begins in July and is composed of two 90-day semesters with four nine-week grading periods. There are two two-week breaks in between each semester and a seven-week summer break at the end of the school year.
At SRMHS, blending University Connections with Design, Arts, and Engineering creates a challenging and dynamic environment for all students. Emphasizing leadership and character development, along with engaging college and career pathways, students maximize their potential as global citizens and strong community leaders. Corporate and university partnerships, mentoring, and support strongly enhance this magnet theme. Through this unique magnet model, students are provided skills training for college and the workplace that are increasingly dependent upon technology, creativity, innovations, and leadership.

PLTW NAF Academy of Engineering & Information Technology
PLTW Engineering empowers high school students to step into the role of an engineer and adopt a problem-solving mindset. Students engage in collaborative, real-life activities like working with a client to design a home, programming electronic devices or robotic arms, and exploring algae as a biofuel source.
PLTW Biomedical Science
PLTW Biomedical Science introduces high school students to medicine and human body systems, as well as the wide array of biomedical science careers. Throughout the program, students take on the same real-world challenges as biomedical science professionals, preparing them for careers in medical and health-related fields.
