    Below is a list of Pre-K programs and services for families.

    CDC Milestone Tracker (Birth - Age 5)

    From birth to age 5, your child will reach important milestones in how they play, learn, speak, and move. The CDC Milestone Tracker is an app that:

    • Helps you track milestones from 2 months to 5 years
    • Provides tips to encourage development
    • Shows photos and videos for each milestone

    If you have concerns about your child’s development, the app can help you learn what steps to take.

    Developmental Screening (Ages 3-5)

    A developmental screening is a brief, family-friendly way to check your child’s development. Early childhood specialists will connect you to resources and support.

    Screenings are available for Wake County families with children ages 3 to 5 who are not yet eligible for kindergarten.

    Parent counseling and support (Birth - Kindergarten)

    Short-term parent counseling can help with concerns about behavior or development. Parent counselors meet with families to share strategies and resources.

    Parent Powered (Birth - 2nd Grade)

    Parent Powered is a free text messaging program for families with children from birth through 3rd grade. Each week, you will receive:

    • Three texts with fun facts and easy tips
    • Ideas to support learning at home


    Available in English, Spanish, and Arabic.

    Parent Teacher Resource Center (Birth - Kindergarten)

    The Alice K. Burrows Parent Teacher Resource Center at Project Enlightenment offers:

    • A library for parents, teachers, and children
    • Resources on parenting, child development, and school readiness
    • Materials about diversity and inclusion
    • Videos, brochures, and publications


    The lending library includes over 15,000 items. Topics include sensitive issues like divorce, new siblings, and grief.

    Parent workshops (Birth - Age 5)

    Parent workshops are held throughout the year at Project Enlightenment in downtown Raleigh. Topics include:

    • Discipline techniques
    • Communication skills
    • School readiness
    • Child development


    Workshops run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

    Parents as Teachers (Pregnancy - Kindergarten)

    Parents as Teachers is a program that supports families from pregnancy until kindergarten. It helps parents build skills and confidence to prepare children for school success.

    Positive Parenting Program (Triple P)

    Triple P offers proven strategies to:

    • Build healthy relationships
    • Manage challenging behavior
    • Support your child’s development

    Triple P is available:

    • Through free parent counseling at Project Enlightenment for children ages 0–5
    • From agencies across Wake County for children ages 0–16 (in English and Spanish)

    Pre-Kindergarten (Age 4 by Aug. 31)

    We offer free and tuition-based Pre-Kindergarten programs to prepare children for school.

    Preschool Programs Child Find (Ages 3-5)

    Preschool Programs Child Find provides free evaluations to children who may have a disability and connects eligible children to special education services.

    Ready to Learn (18 months - 5 years)

    Ready to Learn offers activities for parents and caregivers to do with their children to support learning and development.

    Teacher Parent Consultants

    Teacher Parent Consultants support teachers and childcare providers in addressing classroom challenges. Directors or teachers can request a consultation.
