Applying to a Magnet School

  • The first piece of information you need when investigating WCPSS' magnet schools is understanding the different themes available and which of these options would be a good fit for your student. The Magnet Resource Center is the place to start!
    Once you've decided which school would be the best fit for your student, make sure they're a magnet option for you to attend! Don't worry if a school you want isn't an option--many school offer similar themes and programs for you to choose from.

    Before applying to a school, read more information about how students are selected on the Student Assignment website here. 
    Once you've decided what school(s) to apply to, go to the WCPSS home page during the application window to complete an application. All you need is your student's PowerSchool number. You can choose up to five schools to apply to. This year the application window for the 2017-2018 school year is from January 12-31. 
    The results of the magnet selection process usually become available in mid-February. Applicants who do not receive a seat at their first choice will be placed in an applicant pool. The applicant pool will be reviewed and processed two times, usually in April and May. Results from these reviews will be posted to parent accounts after the lists are processed.
    • If you decide to attend your calendar option school or school outside WCPSS, please contact or the Student Assignment Office as soon as possible.  
    Students who do not receive a magnet seat may not appeal the decision. Martin is not open to transfer applications for the 2017-2018 school year.
