“Forging New Generations of Engineers and Scientists”
The NAF Academy of Engineering at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School is a focused small learning community and is designed to offer its’ students the opportunity to focus on a national engineering course of study within a New Tech cohort group that will remain together throughout the four years of their high school experience. The academy resides within a large fully functioning and robust magnet high school.
Project Lead the Way
(PLTW) is a national program designed to increase the number and quality of engineers graduating from the education system in America. PLTW has developed a four year program that when combined with mathematics and science courses in high school, introduces students to the scope, rigor, and discipline of engineering and technology prior to entering college.
The unique learning environment is designed to give students a highly focused learning experience, while presenting a wide variety of elective choices in a large magnet high school setting. The Engineering Academy introduces students to a wide range of equipment not used in traditional schools or available in most engineering classes. Students will be working with drafting equipment, Autodesk Inventor 3D software, 3D printer, solderless breadboard kits, BoeBots robotic kits, wind tunnel, VEX Robotic kits and a flight simulator. Enriching field trips are aligned with each course, its curriculum, and state standards. The EA students will have to complete job shadowing and a 135 hour minimum internship in an engineering/technical environment during their junior or senior years.
The Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School Engineering Advisory board established with local business and industry partners will enrich each of our student’s education with the personal, analytical, technical, and engineering skills they need to thrive in a global economy and in the process, introduce them to career opportunities in today’s engineering workforce. EA students will be prepared and encouraged to continue their education at the post-secondary level and build their careers with a strong engineering and technological background.
Rising Freshmen applicants who wish to join the Engineering Academy need to complete the Engineering Academy application and New Tech application. Then, send both applications to Mr. Geraghty.
