Child Nutrition Hero: Dorothy Chavis at Enloe Magnet High

We're kicking off Farm-to-School Month by highlighting some of our CNS Heroes! Our next spotlight is Dorothy Chavis, Cafeteria Manager at Enloe Magnet High. Chavis has been with WCPSS for 32 years, with four of those years spent at Enloe Magnet High.

"As a cafeteria manager, my role consists of serving meals to students and staff while building meaningful relationships. I find fulfillment in making a difference and appreciate the collaborative effort of my team and administration in providing efficient service," she said. Her favorite part of her job is making students smile, getting to know them and the staff, building relationships, and ensuring everyone feels valued during mealtimes. "Providing essential meals to students impacts their learning and performance," she said.  A typical day for her starts as early as 5:30 a.m., preparing breakfast and coordinating tasks for workers who prepare, cook, and serve food. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her mother and daughter.

"I've known Dorothy since 2007 when she was the Cafeteria Manager at Underwood, and I was the principal. Dorothy maintains a commitment to high quality at all times," said Enloe Magnet High School Principal Dr. Jacqueline Jordan. "She focuses on running a successful cafeteria by putting people first. She builds relationships with staff and students. Through the years, she has demonstrated an unwavering loyalty to the Child Nutrition Program, seamlessly managing the ups and downs and changes in our school system, including increased demands on her like delivering meals to other schools, always with a positive and flexible affect. She is not only an outstanding professional, but she is a pleasure to work alongside, always focusing on the purpose and joy of the work."
