Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Mary Lovins

I grew up in Boone, NC. I have a degree in Human Development and Family studies and a Masters in Teacher with a focus in Special Education from UNC Chapel Hill. I have lived in Raleigh for just over a year and love the community that I have built here. I am married to my husband, Garrett.

I love to spend time outside, gardening, biking, running, hiking and backpacking. I also enjoy baking, reading and crafts.
I made the decision to become a teacher early on in high school and have been eager to learn and grow into the role since then. I am passionate about all students having access to education and for students to receive the adequate support they need to be successful in the classroom and beyond. As a Special Education teacher, I feel that it is part of my role to advocate for my students to ensure that they have access to the same opportunities as other students and the support they need to be successful.

Why I love our magnet theme...

There are so many opportunities for students to engage with the environment and to be outside on our campus. I grew up in the mountains and I feel that that gave me an appreciation for the beauty of our environment and the need to protect it. I love that this is incorporated into the identity and education at MECME.
