Parent Workshops

Project Enlightenment offers free parent/caregiver workshops that support the transition to Kindergarten.
Titles include:
Kindergarten Partnerships and Participation - This virtual workshop will provide ideas for connecting before, during, and after the kindergarten year, advocating for your child, supporting the curriculum at home, and more information about best practices related to parent-school partnerships. A one-hour presentation will be followed by 30 minutes for parent Q&A, so please bring questions about supporting your family through the transition to kindergarten. This workshop is offered twice during the year, starting with the first session Sept. 12, 6:30-8 p.m.
Positive Parenting Solutions - These sessions will explore effective strategies for building strong connections with your child through positive encouragement and support. Our focus will be on promoting social and emotional development by understanding the important role families play in nurturing these skills. All one-hour sessions are virtual and begin at noon.
- Oct. 21: Introduction - Hear an overview of the workshop series.
- Nov. 18: Keeping It Positive - Learn how to use playful interactions to strengthen the caregiver-child relationship, understand the meaning of challenging behavior, and how to use positively stated directions.
- Dec. 9: Behavior Has Meaning - Examine your child’s behavior, find meaning in behaviors, and understand how to develop effective boundaries at home.
- Jan. 13: The Power of Routines - Set up successful routines and transitions and use prevention strategies that work for your family.
- Feb. 10: Teach Me What to Do - Learn why social-emotional strategies are needed, identify when to practice social-emotional skills, and learn calming strategies to support children at home.
- March 17: Responding with Purpose - Learn powerful prevention strategies as well as how to respond to challenging behaviors in community settings.
- April 14: Putting It All Together with a Plan - The three-part behavior plan will include: prevention, new skills to teach, and new responses.
Hands-on Kindergarten Readiness at Home - This free workshop will be offered five times throughout 2025 beginning in February. Parents will have the opportunity, with their child, to attend a play-based workshop full of ideas and activities to do at home as they prepare for kindergarten. Parents will learn about Pre-K and Kindergarten alignment and become more comfortable with their role in promoting, encouraging and supporting their child’s learning. Children will receive fun, engaging, hands-on activities designed specifically to use in preparation for Kindergarten. For families with children pre-k age. Note: Final date, time and location will be shared prior to the session and will occur in an active kindergarten classroom. Parents must use the corresponding course number to sign up for a specific date. Please check the Project Enlightenment website frequently for updates.
Transitioning to Kindergarten for Multilingual Families - Families will learn more about various learning strategies to support multilingual children who are simultaneously learning or experiencing a non-English language at home while attending preschool and/or transitioning to Kindergarten. Virtual session March 25, 6-7:30 p.m.
