• Good sportsmanship: Codes of conduct for students and parents

    Student Code of Conduct

All students must follow the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Code of Student Conduct. To participate in athletics, you must sign the athletic participation form and agree to the Student-Athlete Pledge. Some schools have additional conduct rules for their athletic programs.

Student-Athlete Pledge: As a student-athlete, I am a role model. I understand the spirit of fair play while playing hard. I will refrain from engaging in all types of disrespectful behavior, including inappropriate language, taunting, trash talking, and unnecessary physical contact. I know the behavior expectations of my school and my conference, and hereby accept the responsibility and privilege of representing this school and community as a student-athlete.

    Student conduct guidelines

To help create a safe, positive environment, you agree to:

    • Use respectful language.

    • Treat everyone fairly, with dignity and respect.

    • Avoid tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.

    • Arrive on time for practices, meetings, and games.

    • Play by the rules and show good sportsmanship.

    • Never sexually harass or harm others.

    • Never gamble on sports or connect with those who do.

    • Show self-control and represent your school well.

    • Follow all school and team policies.

    • Report any injury or health concern to an athletic trainer or first responder.

Note: Violating the WCPSS Code of Student Conduct may result in discipline under Board Policy 6500. Breaking the Student-Athlete Pledge or these guidelines can lead to suspension from your team, based on North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) rules or State Board of Education policies.

    Parent Code of Conduct

Parents must sign the athletic participation form to agree to this pledge.

Parent Pledge: As a parent, I acknowledge that I am a role model. I will remember that school athletics is an extension of the classroom, offering learning experiences for the students. I must show respect for all players, coaches, spectators, and support groups. I will participate in cheers that support, encourage, and uplift the teams involved. I understand the spirit of fair play and the good sportsmanship expected by our school, and our conference. I hereby accept my responsibility to be a model of good sportsmanship that comes with being the parent of a student athlete.
