Percentage of students reporting perseverance

  • Students’ ability to keep pushing forward toward their goals when faced with an obstacle is a key to success both in school and beyond.  Teaching students to view struggles as part of the learning process that makes them grow - and not as a reason to give up - is a key part of what teachers do every day.  WCPSS surveys students in Grades 5, 8, and 9 each year to ask them whether they are able to demonstrate perseverance or grit in the face of obstacles.  The data below represent the percentage of students in 2014-15 in each school who agreed with the following statement: “Setbacks (delays and obstacles) do not discourage me.  I bounce back from disappointments faster than most people.”
