Principal's Message 6/10/24
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
Good Evening, Stallion Families!
The time has come for us to say good-bye to some of our beloved staff members. The reason I am sharing this information with you today is because I know “good-bye” can be hard for children, and some will need some home preparation to support managing their emotions. If your child is one who has big feelings, please let him/her know that I have contact information for all teachers, and I will happily send messages, letters, pictures, anything they like in the future. 🙂
To the following staff members, I thank you for choosing to spend a season, or many years with us at Stough Elementary School. Our community is better because you have been part of our story. We love you!

Mandarin Resources for the Summer
-
Many of you have asked about Mandarin Resources that are available for the summer months. These are the suggestions provided by our Partners at Participate Learning who support our Mandarin program. 🙂
-
Families can access Level Chinese/Level Learning via the Wake ClassLink portal over the summer.
-
Mandarin Reading: Encourage your child to read Mandarin books regularly during the summer. Reading not only improves vocabulary but also enhances comprehension and critical thinking skills. Your child has easy access to a wide range of Mandarin books via the Wake County Classlink Portal. They can listen to these books, practice reading and recording, and even take quizzes to reinforce their skills.
-
Mandarin Resource List: this is the Mandarin resource list, featuring Level Chinese vocabulary lists, Quizlet practice links, and Level Chinese comprehension question Quizlet practice links. Your child can utilize these resources to practice Mandarin vocabulary by reading aloud and practicing with the Quizlet sets.
-
Expose your child to the fun and engaging world of Mandarin through music, crafts, movies, YouTube, television, restaurants, friends, and television in Mandarin. This not only makes learning enjoyable but also provides a rich cultural experience. Here are additional resources that your child will find enjoyable

Fifth Grade Field Trip Chaperones
-
If you were a chaperone for the 5th grade field trip to the Outer Banks, this is for you! We have a few adult-sized shirts left and will make them available for you on a first come, first served basis. Please see Ms. Kadijah in the front office if you would like a shirt.
Talk to Me Tuesdays/Thursdays
-
I hear you! In effort to respond to feedback received, some of you would like more opportunity and easier access to the school principal. You got it!
-
Starting this summer, I will be hosting “Talk To Me Tuesdays/Thursdays”. This is your opportunity to sign up for a time to come and talk to me. You can share feedback, ask questions, the floor is yours. Come by yourself, with a friend, in a small group… I look forward to talking with you!
Canvas
-
We are glad to see that many of our parents have logged in as "parent observers" for their students' Canvas accounts. Your Parent Observer account lets you see announcements from your child's teachers and assignments and teacher feedback. If you have not yet connected to your child's account, please take a moment to do so. Once you connect to follow your student's account, you remain connected throughout their years with WCPSS. 5th grade parents, with this one connection now, you will be connected to all of your child's classes and teachers in middle school as soon as they are enrolled in each teacher's Canvas course. You can find directions here: https://www.wcpss.net/Page/51339
-
Feel free to contact Amy Galvan (agalvan@wcpss.net) if you have any questions.
Sun Bucks Program
-
North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) are excited to launch USDA’s new SUN Bucks program for eligible students to address the summer hunger gap. SUN Bucks will help provide access to nutritious food for many children across North Carolina starting in summer 2024!
-
SUN Bucks will provide grocery-buying benefits to qualifying families with school-aged children during the summer months. Benefits can be used to buy healthy food at places like grocery stores, farmers markets, and some online retailers. Additional information and resources are available on the SUN Bucks website.
Lost and Found
-
We have MANY items in our Lost and Found. We encourage families to take a look in lost and found the next time you are on campus… you might be surprised to find items that belong to your children. All items will be bagged and donated at the close of the school year (June 12).
