This week, April 22-26 is Administrative Assistant Appreciation week. Today I want to shout out the amazing ladies on our front office staff for supporting students, staff, and families, with a kind heart and a warm smile. If/when you stop by the front office this week, I would encourage you to let Ms. Kadijah, Ms. Ann, and Ms. Brunda know how much we appreciate all they do for our school community. Ladies… we are grateful for you! 🙂
-
On Thursday evening, Ms. Mariella and I will be attending the district celebration for Instructional Assistants of the Year. We are proud to be honoring Ms. Pai-i Tsung, our Stough Elementary School IA of the year. Congratulations once again, Pai-i.
Positivity Project: April 22-26: Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence
-
This week we will be learning about the appreciation of beauty and excellence. Appreciation of beauty and excellence means you notice and value the world’s beauty and people’s skills. You don’t take things for granted.

Please use the following link to access the family newsletter for this week.
Panorama Survey
-
Wake County Family Surveys are live! The Survey runs through May 17. We need your help to ensure we hear from as many family voices as possible! If you haven't already done so, please complete the survey surveys.panoramaed.com/wakecounty/family
-
As of April 17th we have 20 families responding to the Panorama Survey. Our goal is for ALL families at Stough to complete the survey. This ensures a large enough sample size for the data to be valid and valuable to our school community.
Single Subject Acceleration
-
The window to request testing for SSA for the 2024-2025 school year is closed. SSA testing is April 22-May 6. Parents who have requested testing will receive an email confirming their student's testing time no later than Saturday, April 20. Please send questions to Mrs. Cecconi-Roberts, lcecconi-roberts@wcpss.net.
Student Led Conferences
-
Student led conferences will be held on Wednesday, April 24th from 4:30pm- 7:00pm in your child’s classroom.
-
The purpose of this event is for students to take ownership of their education. Students will share what they are learning with their families during this time. Please note- this is NOT a teacher conference, so please do not expect to spend a great deal of time talking with the teacher. This is a night for students to shine.
Super Kids Day at Stough Elementary
-
Save the Date: Friday, May 10th Super Kids Day (Rain Date May 17th)
-
It will soon be time for STOUGH STUDENTS to celebrate the summer getting closer with SUPER KIDS DAY! This wonderful field day will only be possible with plenty of parent volunteers!
-
We will need your help to run the games! This fun event is easy – no timing events, no keeping score. You just need to come with a smile, energy, and encouragement for our young participants as they enjoy games and popsicles on the playground. Use this link if you wish to help out.
-
Please be reminded that if you do wish to help that day, you must be a WCPSS approved volunteer. If you are not registered it can be done online at home or come to the office at Stough. Approval can take about a week, so it is recommended to register as soon as possible. Volunteers are able to apply at this link or wcpss.net>Community>Volunteers

Spring is Here! Let’s talk about dress code.
-
One of the best measures of how much your child has grown over the winter is the fit of their clothing come springtime. All of the sudden, shorts and shirts that fit last summer are too short, too tight, too small. I know how busy and hectic morning routines can be. I want to remind you to be intentional about looking at what your child is wearing, especially if you have an older elementary student. Please make sure students are appropriately covered with no exposed undergarments or bare midriffs, even when they remove layers of clothing like hoodies or jackets. Thank you!
Cell phones
-
We are beginning to see an increasing number of students using their cell phones during the school day. The expectation is that students do not have cell phones on campus. With that said, I do understand they are needed for safety reasons in some situations. Please speak to your child about cell phones expectations. We are not going to search for cell phones. If a cell phone rings during class, or if a student has a cell phone out of their book bag during the school day, we will follow protocol:
-
First offense- teacher confiscates a cell phone and turns it into administration. Cell phones will be returned to students at the end of the day.
-
Second offense- teacher confiscates a cell phone and turns it into administration. Cell phones will be returned only to a parent/caregiver.
-
Third offense- teacher confiscates a cell phone and turns it into administration. Cell phones will be returned at the end of the school year.
-
Substitute Teachers
-
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am excited and grateful! A good number of you have reached out to me to gather information about becoming a substitute teacher. Remember, we can use you for any amount of time… as little or as much as you have to give. To make this process easier, these are the steps to follow.
-
The Wake County Public School System has a process. You can find it here. https://www.wcpss.net/subs
-
Once WCPSS has cleared you to sub, and you have gone through orientation, please reach out to our lead secretary, Ann Coventry (acoventry@wcpss.net). She will help you get set up in the system to accept sub jobs here at Stough.

Stough Magnet Elementary PTA
We are joyfully busy in the final months of the semester! Check out Stough PTA's recent newsletter HERE to learn more about what we have going on! PTA members are automatically subscribed to receive these in their inbox. Not a member but want to subscribe? You can do so HERE.
Ms. Ann would just love it if you would stop by the lost and found to see if any of your student's items are there. The racks and tables are full.
Data Manager Appreciation Day (4/17):
We're grateful for Ms. Brunda and all she does for our students and families! She's the absolute best! PTA stopped by with a token of appreciation on behalf of all of our Stough families!
Administrative Assistants Appreciation Week (4/22-26):
Next week we'll be celebrating our amazing administrative team by honoring Ms. Ann Coventry (lead secretary) and Ms. Kedijah Austire (front office assistant). The compassion they, along with Ms. Brunda, show our students and attention they give to families and staff are unmatched and part of what makes Stough feel special from the moment you walk through its doors. Thank you for all you do! PTA will honor them with tokens of appreciation next week!
We're a little light on snacks for the staff lounges. The three staff lounges are stocked each Tuesday with coffee and snacks for the staff. Take advantage of those buy one get one offers at the grocery store this week and drop off some snacks with the front office. You can also purchase snacks online and have them delivered directly to school through the Amazon link found here: https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/QQAOYI5LGXNN
Stough PTA Spring Online Auction (5/10-22):
The auction is one of our two major annual fundraisers and helps fund our programs to begin the school year next year. Our entire board is hard at work collecting donations to tempt your bidding. So far, our prizes range from original works of art to a stay at the Umstead! We need the help of the entire community to make this important fundraiser a success.
Do you own a business or have a service you could offer? Perhaps a stay at a vacation home or time-share you could donate? Have a gift for a craft and wand to share your talents? We'd love your donations to help support our efforts! Check out our flyer and https://stoughpta.com/stough-spring-auction to learn more.
Stough Staff Appreciation Week (5/6-10):
Staff Appreciation Week is May 6-10 and you know at Stough we show up BIG! You work hard to help us raise funds throughout the year to support our teachers and PTA plans a week long celebration with staff meals, treats and fun on behalf of all of our families. Emily McBrayer and her crew have planned an amazing week in celebration of our entire staff. Check our flyer and stay tuned to Stough PTA's events and updates page for details and photos of the fun! You can sign up to volunteer HERE or on the volunteer page at stoughpta.com. *Reminder you must be a WCPSS approved volunteer to sign up. Contact Emily McBrayer with questions at elmcbrayer@gmail.com.
Have a wonderful week!
