  • SECU 2020 Scholarship Recipients

Sanderson High School is happy to announce that we have two seniors who are the recipients of the SECU People Helping People Scholarship. SECU Foundation established the People Helping People four-year scholarship program to help North Carolina public high school students attend college. Please help us congratulate Helen Gaitan and Claire Spickard!

Helen will be attending East Carolina University and will be a student in their Honors College. She will be majoring in Nursing with a minor in French. Her career goal is to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner so it's probably no surprise her favorite subject in school was Science. Helen's favorite teachers have been Mr. Smith and Mr. Story who were great mentors to her at Sanderson. A fun fact about Helen is that she is bilingual!

Claire will be attending UNCW next year to study Adapted Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis! She is hoping to work with kids that have severe disabilities and/or behavior challenges. Her favorite subject in school is lunch, because that's when she gets to go to PALS club and spend time with our extended content special ed students! She wants to thank both Mr. Comperatore and Dr. Brown for being awesome! Claire says they have both supported her, and pushed her to be the best version of myself! A fun fact about Claire is she has auditioned for America's Got Talent twice!
