INTERIM PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

10/28/24

Greetings Stallion Families!

We have an exciting week planned for our Super Stallions.  Spirit Week is always a fun time for students and staff!  Most importantly, we are continuing our focus on kindness and making positive choices.

On a personal note….

I want to thank each of you for your warm welcome to Stough.  This Thursday is my last day as the Interim Principal at our school. I have enjoyed coming to school each day and being a part of this incredible community of students, staff and parents.   Immersing myself in the culture of our school has been an amazing experience.  I have enjoyed how our PTA is focused on all students, connecting our school and being a part of the total school community.  Our staff is dedicated to our students and their learning.  I am confident you will welcome your new principal, Dr. Summerfield with the same enthusiasm you extended to me.

Transportation Information

  • Walkers Reminder

    • Walker tags are for Walkers only. Our WCPSS Security Officer and RPD  are assessing the current situation of many driving and parking in handicap  spaces, along the curb  and the loading dock.  They will provide feedback and possible next steps to ensure the safety of our students and families. We will be happy to provide a carpool number to those of you who are driving and parking to pick up your walker.

  • Carpool Reminder

    • Carpool is over at 4:15.  Students are brought to the office at 4:15.  Parents will need to come to the office and pick up their child.  We know there are times where being late is unavoidable. If you know you will be late please call the office to let us know. IF you are late to pick up your child frequently, we will provide you information about the YMCA after school program.

  • Families please call the front office  (919-881-4950) if you want to make any transportation changes. Teachers are focused on teaching and often do not check communication until the end of the day.  Should your child’s teacher be absent from school, we would not have the information to make a transportation change.  Thank you in advance for calling the office with ANY transportation changes.

School  Improvement Plan

Attendance  is Important!

  • Please remember our school School Improvement Plan will include an attendance goal. Throughout the year, we will showcase the benefits and positive gains of our students through their attendance. The link below provides more information on the benefits of school attendance.

  • Our school has an Attendance Committee, composed of School Counselors, School Social Worker, School Psychologist and Administrators.  This committee meets to review absences and to review any Request for Excused Absences form submitted.  Please remember, if you submit a request for an excused absence, it is still an absence and reflected on your child’s attendance report.  When requesting the absence the intent of the experience should have been educational from the outset and comparable to that which the student would have experienced in school. Family trips and vacations that were not designed, initially, to be educational will not be excused.

  • Some pondering thoughts…

How To Help Your Child Succeed in School - That habit of good attendance.

Positivity Project-

  • This week, our school community will focus on the Other People Mindset of Knowing That My Words and Actions Affect Others, which means having an awareness that everything that we say and do can affect others — and our relationships with them. PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports)

  • Each area of our school has expectations aligned with LEAD.  We are proud of our students for working to meet the expectations in the hallways.  Classes have been receiving Stallions from staff for the last several weeks.

  • L- Look and Listen

  • E- Empathize

  • A- be Accountable

  • D- Demonstrate Safety

P2 Assemblies

  • Parents, our staff is excited to share with you the date for our first P2 Assembly for the school year!  Quarter 1 P2 awards will be given out on November 14th at designated grade level times.  For our kindergarten and new student families, P2 Assemblies are one of the many ways staff recognizes students for demonstrating the character traits they are learning about.  If your child has earned one of the P2 awards for the quarter, you will get an invite from your child's teacher letting you know they have been chosen for an award, and we invite the parents of those

students to attend the assembly on November 14th.  The designated time for your child's grade level will be noted on the invite.
