Principal's Message: Welcome to the 24-25 School Year
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
Good Evening, Stallion Families!
I hope you are enjoying your summer! We are now well into the month of July, which means it is time for me to push out some information regarding the start of the new school year.
For those of you who are super planners, I want you to have the information you need as soon as I am able to share it. For those of you who are enjoying every moment of your summer break and not ready to look at school information yet, I hear you too! I would encourage you to push this message to the side and come back later.
This school year, I will be sending Principal messages on Fridays at 5:00pm. I received and heard your feedback from the Family Panorama survey. This is an easy change, and one I am very happy to make.

“Meet the Teacher” Event Grades 1-5

In an effort to include as many of our families as possible, we will be offering two opportunities for students to come to school to meet their teachers. Families are free to choose the session that best meets their needs.

Monday, August 26, 2024 is “Meet the Teacher” Day for Grades 1-5

Session 1 will run from 1:00pm-3:00pm

Our students support services team will host sessions for New Families/Students (not enrolled in kindergarten) at 12:00 noon and 3:00pm. These sessions are not required, but if you are new to Stough (and your child is not enrolled in kindergarten), you are welcome to attend.
Kindergarten Information:
-
WCPSS holds “staggered entry” for all students new to kindergarten. Kindergarten students will attend school for 1 day during the first week of school. This allows teachers to begin building relationships with students, to assess students to determine their beginning kindergarten skills, and to teach expectations and procedures while students are in a small group setting. If you are unable to attend on your assigned day, please call Ms. Serpil Helvaci in the front office (919) 881-4950. Thank you!

School Supplies for the 2024-2025 School Year

Grade level school supply lists have been uploaded to the Stough Elementary School website under the heading “Families”. Please plan for your child to bring supplies during Meet the Teacher, or on the first day of school.

Child Nutrition Services
-
The WCPSS School Board approved a 25-cent price increase for school meals for the 2024-2025 school year. At elementary schools, full-paid breakfast will be $1.75 and lunch will be $3.50. The price increase is necessary to cover the rising costs of food, supplies, and wages and benefits for staff.
-
To receive free or reduced-price meals for the 2024-25 school year, families must submit a meal benefits application online at MySchoolApps.com. For families who completed the 2023-24 meal benefits application, the benefit continues for their student's first 30 school days of the 2024-25 school year. For every student who turns in the free and reduced lunch application and qualifies, the school receives federal funds that benefit the students and teachers at the school.
