Principal Message for 9/11/23

Hello Stallion Families!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!  I want to thank you in advance for taking time to read/review this week’s message.  Please encourage your Stallion friends to do the same.  The weekly principal’s message is one of the major sources of school wide communication, so it’s important to take a look at it every week.

Updates for the Week of September 11th- 15th

  • This week is a 5 day week.

Monday, September 11th- Patriot Day

  • Congress designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day," and by Public Law 111-13 (April 21, 2009), Congress has requested the observance of September 11 as an annually recognized "National Day of Service and Remembrance." In accordance with a Board of Education Resolution, WCPSS schools are directed to conduct a moment of silence on September 11 for the anniversary of 9/11/2001. We will honor this moment of silence in school on September 11. You are your child’s first teacher. Please be prepared to support any questions they may have related to September 11. We continue to honor all those who sacrificed their lives and safety on September 11, 2001.

Shout Outs!  Thank you!

  • In China, National Teachers Day is celebrated on September 10th  each year to indicate the deep respect that Chinese society holds for teachers.  Today I want to say “thank you” to all of our teachers and staff here at Stough Magnet Elementary.  Your work with children is seen, valued, and you are appreciated.

  • Saturday, September 16th is Instructional Assistant Appreciation Day!  Please take a minute this week to share words of praise and encouragement with our/your instructional assistants.  Our community could not function without them, the roles they play are vital… and we are grateful for EVERY ONE of our amazing IAs.

New WCPSS security process

  • REMINDER- You must have your ID to check your students in/out of the building, to volunteer in the building, or to visit the building.  If you have a phone, you will want to bring this to the front doors as well, as there is a QR code for you to scan prior to being granted entrance to the building.

  • REMINDER- Please be kind to our front office staff when you get frustrated with this system.  They are doing their best to work with you, and to support you with this process that is required in all WCPSS schools.

  • REMINDER- Please DO NOT hold the door open for the person behind you.  Every person must be screened before entering.  I know this feels awkward and rude, but it is necessary as we work to keep our community safe.

Walker students- arrival and dismissal

  • REMINDER- Students must live in the “no transportation zone”, which is within a 1.5 mile radius of Stough Elementary School in order to be walkers.  The district does not provide transportation for these students who reside in our base.  All other students (students living greater than 1.5 miles from Stough) will not be considered walkers and must use carpool, vendors, and/or busing as transportation to/from school.  We will no longer be releasing students through the front doors as walkers if they do not have a walker pass that shows “no transportation zone”.  Thank you for your compliance with this WCPSS expectation.

Positivity Project: September 11-15: Other People Matter

  • Continuing for the 2023-2024 school year- Stough Elementary is a Positive Project (P2) school.  The mission of the Positivity Project is to empower America’s youth to build positive relationships by understanding, appreciating, and exemplifying the character strengths in us all.

  • Please use the following family newsletter to see that your child is learning during Morning Meeting this week and to continue the conversation at home.  We are always working to build a strong home-school connection, and P2 is a great way to strengthen this process.  (P2- Other People Mindset)
