Ms. Kimberly Brown

Hello! My name is Kim Brown, and I'm thrilled to say this is my 27th year teaching in the Wake County School System. I grew up in Bristol, Tennessee and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a Master of Education degree from Nova Southeastern University Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I began my teaching career working in the Head Start Program, in East Tennessee.  I continued my teaching career in the Miami-Dade School System, until Hurricane Andrew decided I needed a new adventure. This year, I am excited to be joining the Second Grade Team. Currently, I live in Clayton, NC with my sister, nephew and one spoiled cat that runs the house. I enjoy animals, reading, researching genealogy, swimming and spending time with my family. I look forward to starting a new year at Aversboro!

Ms. Ruth Smith

I'm so excited to be a new member of Aversboro Elementary! I have been teaching for nearly 15 years in Johnston and Wake County. I started as an instructional assistant/bus driver in Pre-K and special education cross category classrooms  in Johnston County for several years. In 1990, I received an Applied Associates of Science degree in Medical Office Technology from Johnston Community College in Smithfield, NC and a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Strayer University of Washington, D.C. in 2009. Later, I went on to receive a Masters of Arts degree in Teaching K-12 Special Education-General Curriculum degree from University of Charlotte, NC in 2013. I also took courses in the Doctorate of Education-Special education program at Concordia University of Portland, Oregon. I highly enjoy teaching and am very compassionate about learning just as much as my students. This is my first year as a regular education teacher of 2nd grade upon teaching special education for many years.  My hobbies include reading, sewing, traveling, and graphic design (using Adobe and Silhouette)! I am a proud mother of a son (Josh) and daughter (Jasmyne) as well as grandmother of 2 girls and 2 boys! My favorite quote is by Maya Angelou: "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud!
