Sanderson High School offers multiple opportunities for students to be involved in the larger Sanderson Community. Community service and involvement is a large part of the "Sanderson Way" and students are encouraged to do their part to make an impact on the community. Social clubs and teams also provide unique opportunities for students to collaborate and form meaningful relationships with their peers.
Membership and participation in all student clubs and organizations is open to all students without regard to age, race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or other protected classifications.

This club is looking to explore the uses of AI and discuss the impacts it will have on society. We will be looking at current events, use AI, discuss the negatives of AI, and look for ways that could improve AI in the future. We are looking to target anyone with an interest in the AI sphere to join our club.

Brain Game
The Sanderson Brain Game team will prepare for competition with other local high schools, answering trivia questions about a variety of topics including art, history, current events and others. The Brain Game team will compete on television during WRAL's Brain Game "The smartest 30 minutes on television."
2025-2026 will be Sanderson's first season as a team. Show taping takes place on Saturdays between October and April. Actual schedule TBD depending on the participation of other schools and playoff qualification.
Students will need to have release waivers signed by parents to appear on the show.
If there are enough participants, we may form some quiz bowl players and compete in local Quiz Bowl tournaments depending on player and tournament availability.

Some things we've done in the past include prayer walks, Mudcats Faith and Family night, Worship at the Flagpole, a Christmas gift exchange party, potlucks, game nights, bowling, serving and praying for those going through difficult times, celebrating and praying for those going through exciting times, and more.Meetings: We meet every Friday from 6:50-7:20am to eat breakfast, fellowship, play games, and listen to and engage with encouraging speakers of God's Word. When able, we also meet at other times for socials, service opportunities, and Bible Studies.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the largest career and technical student organization in the world, dedicated to preparing students for success in business, leadership, and community engagement. The Future Farmers of America (FFA) is a student organization dedicated to fostering leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Founded in 1928, FFA has evolved to support not only future farmers but also future leaders in various agricultural and related fields. Our programs include hands-on experiences in areas such as animal science, plant science, agribusiness, and environmental science. We also take enriching field trips and attend workshops that provide real-world insights and skills. We hold monthly meetings to keep members engaged and informed, and offer leadership development through events like the State/National FFA Convention and local competitions. Targeted at high school students, FFA provides a platform to explore careers, develop skills, and engage in community service. By participating, students gain practical experience and valuable connections that pave the way for future success in agriculture and beyond.

HOSA- Future Health Professionals
Formerly called Health Occupation Students of America, HOSA-Future Healthcare Professionals is for students who are interested in building leadership skills, completing community service, and being involved in competitive events, all with a healthcare focus. We have had top 10 finishers in various competitive events at each level of competition including Regionals, States, and International. We have been building the program since 2021 and would love to include students who have a desire to build their resume by gaining meaningful connections and opportunities in healthcare.
Requirements to join: Students should have an interest in a healthcare career and to understand that there are meeting attendance and service activity requirements.

International Club
The International Club is for any Sanderson student who wants to learn more about different cultures! Our meetings are a fun way to meet new friends, listen to music from around the world, learn words in different languages, and celebrate the diversity of our SHS students. In the Fall, the International Club meets one Friday a month during lunch for casual conversation. In Spring, we organize and host the International Festival. Students from different countries share information about their cultures, and classes that attend the Festival enjoy presentations of dancing and music.

International Thespian Society (ITS)
This is an honors society for higher level thespians. There are opportunities to earn points through participation and volunteering. Levels of points earn students recognition in the organization. Students that are regularly involved in theatre are recommended to be part of this program.

APT is an academic initiative aimed at fostering positive role models while delivering presentations on relevant and timely topics. KHHS is designed to inspire interest in higher education, encourage cadets to engage in club activities, and offer opportunities for leadership growth. This competitive team offers cadets advanced training in drill, covering areas such as Regulation, Exhibition, Inspection, and Color Guards. The course is only available in class during the spring semester and requires cadets to be enrolled in their cohort JROTC class to participate. It aims to enhance precision and leadership skills through ceremonial and competitive drill practices.Model Rocketry Club:
In this club, cadets learn the fundamentals of building and launching model rockets, along with the academic principles behind rocket science. Typically, the club organizes one rocket launch per semester, depending on weather conditions.Robotics Team:
The Robotics Team focuses on the design, construction, and operation of robots in a sports-like competitive setting. Through participation, cadets will gain hands-on experience with key STEM principles and robotics concepts. The program culminates in a competition where cadets can compete against their peers in the classroom or on a global scale at the VEX Robotics Competition, the world’s largest and fastest-growing international robotics competition for high school students. Robotics is only offered in class during the fall semester. Cadets must take their cohort JROTC class to participate.Tutoring Team:
This team is dedicated to providing academic support to fellow cadets in need of assistance with their studies. Cadets serving as tutors offer guidance in various subjects, helping their peers improve academic performance, build study skills, and gain confidence. Key Club
Key Club is a service organization that does community service around the school and Raleigh area. We work closely with Kiwanis Club of North Raleigh in cleaning up parks, sending letters to children, and helping feeder elementary schools. Around school we clean up the park, post words of kindness, and hide nice messages in library books for people to find. In the past, our organization worked closely with Food Ark and we are one of the largest clubs in the school. We expect each member to get 50 hours of service and come to all meetings.Meetings: First Wednesday of the month in the library.

National Achievers Society (NAS)
The National Achievers Society is an honor society that recognizes, encourages, and reinforces achievement among African American youth and other youth of color. The purpose of National Achievers Society is to create a national group presence of achievement in which young people can aspire and participate. National Achievers started through the Urban League. Members engage in community service, exhibit leadership, strong character, and prioritize academic success.
Requirements to join: Students must have a 3.0 cumulative weighted grade and must maintain that GPA along with meeting attendance and community service requirements. Qualifying students in grades 10-12 can participate and will be inducted their sophomore or junior year.

National Technical Honor Society
A nationally recognized organization that honors outstanding high school students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs across North Carolina and the United States. Membership is both an honor and a responsibility, as it highlights students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership, skill development, and strong character within their chosen career pathway.
Requirements to join: To be eligible, NC high school students generally must maintain a solid GPA, be enrolled in a CTE program, receive a teacher recommendation, and display qualities such as honesty, responsibility, and good citizenship. By joining NTHS, students gain access to exclusive scholarships, recognition for their accomplishments, networking opportunities, and a credential that strengthens their college and career readiness.

PALS Club
The PALS organization is dedicated to fostering socialization skills among Special Needs students at Sanderson. PALS volunteers generously donate their time to engage in social interactions, share meals, and participate in games with these students. This initiative provides a valuable opportunity for the students to develop as individuals and enhance their independence.
We meet every day in 119E and 124 E during all lunch periods. Some of the events associated with PALS are: Special Olympics, Unified Track, Field of Dreams, NC State Field day, NC State Fair, Halloween Party, Polar Plunge, Walk for Autism, and Spread the Word to End the Word.

Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad
The NCSO is the largest K-12 STEM competition in North Carolina. Our team of students meets weekly to prepare for the tournament in February. Students and coaches work together to determine which events are the best match for each student. Types of events include core knowledge events, build events, laboratory/hands-on events, and hybrid events. All students interested in science, technology, engineering, or math should consider joining.

Senior Class Council
Senior Class Council falls under the larger umbrella of Student Council. The Senior Class Council serves as the elected voice of the senior class. They participate in school wide council activities such as the food drive, campus beautification, and Holly Days, but the class is also responsible for organizing the Winterfest Dance, senior assembly, and senior picnic.
Requirements to join: These are elected or appointed positions that are chosen at the end of the previous school year. If you are new to the school and want to be involved, see a council advisor and they can discuss ways you can participate.

Sanderson Speech and Debate is a team for everyone and anyone. Step Team - Alpha Omega
Sanderson's Step Team started in 2011 by current Coach Travis Wilson. Step is a form of dance that uses the whole body and chants to make beats and rhythmic sounds. The Team is the current Female State Step Champions. The team Host two large competitions here at Sanderson each year. One in November and the other in February.
All students are welcome to join the Step Team (any grade, male or female, no experience needed).

The Student Ambassador program is a group created to foster good will with our newcomer students from the US and abroad. Ambassadors make sure these students feel welcome and comfortable at Sanderson. They give orientations, do meet and greets on a new student's first day, and escort new students to their classes. For new Multilingual students, bilingual ambassadors will escort them to their classes.

Student Council
Student Council is an opportunity to develop and practice good citizenship in the student body, to provide direction of school activities, and assist in the management of student concerns. Student must be elected by their peers or appointed by their teachers to be involved in our organization. Student council runs events like Homecoming, Prom, and Sanderson's biggest community fundraiser, the Food Drive!
Requirements to join: Students must be elected or appointed. Deadline for Freshman applications is September 12th. Students must be in good standing academically and behaviorally.

W.I.S.E (Women Inspiring Success in Each Other)
WISE (Women Inspiring Success in Each Other)
WISE is an organization that seeks to improve the state of young women through relevant, uplifting activities including school and community service, academic enrichment, character development, social intelligence, career and college preparation, etc. in hopes of creating a positive impact on each other and the school community.
Requirement to join: Teacher recommendation, Grades 10-12, underrepresented minority female students

WiSTEM (Women in STEM)
The club is for all women who are interested in STEM, we will do activities involving the different types of STEM. Speakers from different STEM firms will come in and talk or talk over a zoom meeting. This club is with an organization called WiSTEM and there are activities and speakers involved with the organization.
