Hi! My name is Tareya Stokes! This is my first year at MECME! I am so excited to be teaching Kindergarten this year.  A new school year brings a chance to start fresh with a new group of eager young learners. The opportunity to shape their first experiences with school is incredibly rewarding. 

I am from Raleigh, NC but graduated from Hampton University with my BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. I was fortunate to compete as a member of the Women's Soccer Team at HU and have played soccer my entire life. Now that I am retired, I enjoy traveling with friends, and finding new ways to stay active.

Why I teach...

I teach because of the profound influence my mother had on me as a teacher and the sanctuary that school provided during my formative years. Growing up, I watched my mom dedicate herself to her students with unwavering passion and care, and her commitment left a lasting impression on me. For me, school was not just a place of learning but a haven where I felt supported and understood, thanks to the nurturing environment my mom and other educators created. This personal experience shaped my belief in the transformative power of education and inspired me to follow in her footsteps. I want to offer my students the same sense of safety, encouragement, and opportunity that I found in my own educational journey, fostering a space where they can grow, explore, and thrive.
