Principal Message (5/23/21)
Current 9th Grade Students
On May 13, the State Board of Education voted to allow students who entered high school in 2020-21 and beyond to have AP US Government and Politics satisfy the North Carolina Civic Literacy social studies graduation requirement.
Based on previous guidance, all rising 10th graders were advised to register for Civic Literacy as their required social studies course for the next school year; however, due to this change, rising 10th graders can now take AP US Government & Politics instead of Civic Literacy. This may be a particularly attractive option for 9th graders who took AP World History this school year and who would like to stay on the AP pathway in social studies courses.
To have your/your child’s course requests changed to reflect a desire to replace Civic Literacy with AP US Government & Politics, please click HERE to complete a quick form that will serve as notice for counselors to update your requests. Responses are requested by Wednesday, May 26.
Also, for your reference, use this link HERE to access an updated list of potential courses that fulfill social studies graduation requirements, please see below.
AP Exams
AP Exams began on Wednesday, May 19. We have over 250 students who have not logged in and set up with Digital App for taking their AP Exam from home yet! Per CollegeBoard, students MUST set up their accounts before the exam day in order to take their exam digitally at home. If you have not done so, please review the AP information on the GLHS Website HERE! More information from CollegeBoard about test rules/Honor Code guidelines, technology questions, and more, linked HERE!
To ensure a successful AP exam day,
- Students MUST log in and should practice each exam to make sure their technology is working BEFORE their test day. Setup for exams must take plan 1-3 days before the exam. Failure to do so can result in not being able to test!
- Students must log in 30 minutes prior to the exam on test day. This was an issue last week with exams - you will be unable to test if you do not set up in time!
- Students will not be counted absent for the day they are taking an AP exam - however, students are responsible for any deadlines and missed work - please talk to teachers with any questions. Rosters for each AP exam will be sent to teachers and updated in Attendance.
Wake Tech’s Career and College Promise (CCP) Program Night
Wake Tech Community College CCP Representatives are partnering with GLHS Student Services for a Q&A night on May 25 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. If you would like to learn more about this program before our program night, then use this link HERE! Our program will be a 45-minute presentation from CCP (program, pathways, and more) and questions at the end. A Microsoft Teams Live Event link HERE to join: CCP Live Q&A Session – Green Level HS
Please add these notes about registration:
- Students who are enrolled in CCP courses for the summer and/or fall must submit a Dual Enrollment form and screenshot from their Wake Tech portal to prove enrollment and secure dual enrollment credits. Additionally, if you are a rising junior (current 10th grader) or rising senior (current 11th grader) and would like to request an Early Release/Late Arrival for next year (requesting to have less than four courses per semester at Green Level), you should submit the form prior to leaving for the summer so your schedule comes out correct in the fall. Turning a form in early means we will build your schedule around your requests - if you request in the fall/spring, we cannot guarantee the ability to move courses to accommodate an early release/late arrival. If you have questions, please contact your counselor or make an appointment.
- If you are wanting to Mid Year Graduate (one semester early in December/January) or Early Graduate (one year early at the end of the junior year), you also can turn in your form prior to leaving for the summer so your schedule will be ready in the fall when finalized in August. If you do not turn it in before, we may not be able to accommodate all your requested courses once schedules are made in August. If you have questions or want to talk about this more, please make an appointment with your counselor HERE.

In preparation for the 2021-22 school year, we are excited to open the application window for new student clubs and organizations. Students wishing to initiate a new club/organization must please complete and submit this form.
Please keep in mind that submitting this form does not guarantee the approval of your proposal. Following the application, a staff committee will meet to review all submissions. Once the committee approves a proposal, club proposers will be contacted and tasked with securing a faculty advisor. Final approval will not be granted until a faculty advisor has confirmed their commitment to your club/organization.
