Ms. Maya Alexander

Hi, I'm Maya Alexander!

I am a Raleigh native, and I have been a member of the Joyner Jaguar family for four years.

I am a proud graduate of William Peace University, where I earned my B.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Education, and my journey in learning continued to my Master’s in Library Science from North Carolina Central University

When I am not in the classroom or the library, I am found lost in a great book, being creative in many art mediums, or digging into dirt in my garden oasis.

I have a passion for education and creativity; and I am excited for another year of learning and exploring.

Ms. Marty Leon

I have enjoyed working with kindergarten children for the past 15 years. Some children are attending school for the very first time. They are loving and so eager to learn AND to share their knowledge with us. At this age, we as teachers are laying the foundation for their education. I like knowing that I make a difference in a child's life.
I love working at J.Y. Joyner and being a part of the JYJ extended family. There is great support between the students, parents, teachers and  administration.  We are Joyner strong!
Both my children attended Joyner from kindergarten through 5th grade. At that time I was involved in the  PTA as a parent, and I was a substitute teacher here. My positive experience at Joyner as a parent and unofficial staff member was the reason I asked to become a permanent staff member. I was not ready to leave HOME.

Ms. Arriyell Searight

Hello! I’m Nichole Searight!

I was born and raised in Raleigh, NC! I attended Millbrook High School where I was a member of the Color Guard team on the Millbrook High Marching Band. An interesting fact about me is that I’M A TRIPLET (All Girls!!). My older sister was born one minute before me and my “baby” sister was born one minute after me! Talk about CLOSE-KNIT FAMILY. I also have one brother who is the baby of the family!

I have loved kids ever since I was little. I’ve carried my passion for children into my first job which was a Preschool Teacher and currently still have that passion today as an Instructional Assistant here at Joyner Elementary. I arrive on the Joyner campus each morning with a single goal in mind, to instill self-confidence, self-worth and resilience into at least one child so that they can have the tools they need to make a difference in the world. When I am not at Joyner you will find me still working with kids running an after- school program and a summer camp during the summer.

I feel blessed to be a part of the Joyner family for going on 4 years and I look forward to many more years to come! #JOYNERSTRONG

Ms. Patricia White

Hi, I’m Patricia White, and I’m proud to serve as an instructional assistant at Joyner Elementary School. Before joining the Joyner family, I spent six wonderful years homeschooling, which gave me a deep appreciation for personalized learning and the unique ways each child shines. I’m a graduate of Pitt Community College with degrees in Criminal Justice and Education, and I love combining structure with creativity in the classroom. As an artist and owner of Soul 2 Image Creations, I believe learning should be hands-on, imaginative, and inspiring. My goal is simple — to help every student find their voice, build confidence, and love learning.
