March 10, 2015
As you heard in my message to you this past Sunday, March 23rd-March 25th will now be school make-up days. WCPSS' intent is to provide maximum flexibility under the law and policies to parents, students, and schools, to minimize or eliminate the impact of any absences on scheduled makeup days, recognizing that many families may have travel plans or other conflicts. I wanted to make you aware of several guidelines related to these make-up days.
This is Tripp Crayton, Principal at Wakefield High School, with an important message regarding the March 23rd-March 25th inclement weather make-up days.
- Students who plan to be absent from school due to a valid educational opportunity, such as travel, will need to complete the “Request for Excused Absence for Educational Reasons” form. We will be modifying our school form for students to complete, without the essay requirement, for absences covering March 23rd-25th. The form will be available tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon on our website and in the attendance office of both campuses. The form must be completed and submitted to the attendance office prior to the absences, following the same guidelines always followed with other such requests.
- Any student who is absent on makeup days will be permitted to make up missed school work for full credit.
- Students absent on makeup days will not suffer any impact on grades or academic credit solely as a result of these absences provided the students make up the missed assignments in a timely manner as established by our current school policy for make-up work.
- Absences from March 23rd-25th will not be counted in determining whether seniors are exempt from non-state exams.
- 3rd Quarter will end on March 25th. Midterms, if applicable, can be given by teachers March 19th and March 20th.
