Senior Graduation Event Speaker Contest
Each Senior choosing to apply to be a Senior Graduation Events Speaker, must submit an application linked here by Friday, April 16th at 2:30pm. Submissions after the deadline will not be accepted.
To be included with your application:
2 Teacher’s names for recommendation
A copy of your speech (as a PDF, MS Word, or Google Doc formats accepted)
A FlipGrid recording of your entire speech
Speeches need to be 3 to 4 minutes in length. When writing your speech, please focus on the journey of your time at Wakefield High School as a student. While we understand that the last year of your life as a student has been dramatically different, we encourage you to not solely focus on just the last 12 months of this time in your life.
When recording your speech, please ensure that you demonstrate your public speaking ability. You may record multiple times in order to give the staff that will vote your best recording. Please click here to access the link to the FlipGrid Group.
Each Senior will need to choose 2 WHS Teachers to complete a Teacher Recommendation Form. Once you have listed these staff members, they will be notified by email.
Senior Graduation Events Speaker Selection:
Once all submissions have been received, select Wakefield staff will view all submission videos and will vote on Seniors to speak at the Graduation events. Speakers will be scored based on the following criteria:
Content: Stayed on topic, organized well, flowed from one thought to another, had an introduction and conclusion, would interest audience
Eye Contact: Looked at entire audience, didn’t rely on notes
Posture: Correct posture, No shifting, rocking, or swaying
Voice: No use of ums, ahs, uh, etc., Rate is appropriate, Voice is appropriate

If you aren't sure if you have paid, please let me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Mrs. Robin Brown (email@example.com) know and we can let you know!
Student Council has put together a quick survey requesting input about potential senior events. Please click here to submit to the form. Please keep in mind that not all events can happen, and what we do put on for the Senior Class will only be events where we can enforce WCPSS safety protocols.
If you have a book out, it will need to be returned to the school this semester. If you are unsure if you have something checked out to you or not, please see the attached document in your email on the4 homepage about checking your status in Destiny. Questions about this can be directed to Mr. John Smith (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Ms. Joyce Deaton (email@example.com) in the Media Center.
