Return to In-Person Instruction Updates

So far so good!  Within the last two weeks, we have welcomed two cohorts back to school.  Teachers are becoming more comfortable simultaneously teaching in-person and virtual academy students.  Student feedback seems to be positive.  Our cohort attendance last week rose from 79% (Cohort 2) to 87% (Cohort 3). Once again, thank you for your continuous support. As shared last week, we believe cohort rotations are the first step for returning back to full-time in-person instruction.


This week, Cohort 1 returns to campus for the first time!  If you are in Cohort 1, please take a few minutes to watch this “Return to Campus” video from our Student Ambassadors and review the School Reopening information HERE on our school website. 


Service Dog: 

We want to share with you that we will have a service animal on campus during this rotation. Please do not interact with the service animal as it is working. If you would like to know more about service dogs, please watch this short video HERE!



Summers Take 2


Last month I shared with you that I was scheduled for knee replacement surgery.  Regretfully, my surgery was canceled because my whole family tested positive for COVID.  Thankfully, my family recovered within a few weeks and my surgery was quickly rescheduled for Thursday, March 4.   


Unfortunately, for the remainder of this month, our Sunday School Message will be on “pause." If there is something urgent that needs to go out, Mr. Carrington will step in my place. His voice is much more appealing than mine.  Please take care and I look forward to catching up with everyone when I return in 6 weeks. 



Parent Round Table


We will host our first Parent Round Table on Tuesday, March 2 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm to answer any lingering questions you have regarding registration for the 2021-2022 school year.  Mark your calendars, and fill out the RSVP.  Please also let us know in the RSVP form if you have specific questions you need to be answered so we can get the correct resources present to help too.  Round Table RSVP Link is HERE!



Course Registration for 2021-22


On Thursday, February 25th we launched our course registration window for current GLHS students with a presentation during Advisory. The registration window for existing GLHS students will be open until Friday, Marcy 12th. Please be sure to encourage your child to review course registration materials with you and to complete the online process by the due date. Materials for course registration can be found HERE. We also launched our Virtual Open House site last week, which also includes a variety of resources that you and your student(s) might find helpful as they're considering which courses to request for next year. Reminders about Connectivity


Connectivity sessions are from 8:45 am to 9:35 am.  A complete list of clubs/organizations can be found in ALLTimely and the standing clubs/organizations can be found HERE.  As a reminder, students who are physically attending school in-person must register for a Connectivity session.



Engineering Career Conversation Month

Engineering in 21st Century

Date:  Tuesday, March 2

Presenter:   Sumanth Kumar

Details:  Discussion on an Engineering career path with details on design, modeling & manufacturing. We will also discuss advancements due to the latest technologies such as computer simulation, 3D Printing, Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality to enhance all types of engineering.


Biomedical Engineering

Date: Tuesday, March 16

Presenter:  Nikila Vasudevan

Details:  Nikila is a young graduate who graduated from Duke University and is working locally at Procter & Gamble.  She is going to talk about the college journey and getting a job out of college.


Data Servers & Cloud

Date:  Thursday, March 25

Presenter:  Nitul Patel

Details:  Nitul works at Dell Technologies, a premier technology company.  He will discuss how the internet works, the backbone behind social media platforms such as Pinterest, Twitter, TikTok, and describe steps to take if you are interested in this career path.



Senior Rings and Letterman Jackets 


Last week, we distributed information to Juniors about class rings and letterman jackets.  If you did not receive the information, you can access all of the materials at If you have any questions, Jostens will be on campus on March 1 from 2:30 to 4:00 pm to answer any questions or to see items in person. 


Spirit Wear on Sale


If you are attending school in-person, PTSA and Gator Club (Athletics) will sell spirit wear on Thursday during your lunch period.  You are more than welcome to purchase immediately (debit or credit card only) or order online. Students can pick up items immediately or on their next cohort rotation.

Excellence in Teaching Award


We need your help in nominating a GLHS teacher for the “Excellence in Teaching Award” from the Cary Chamber of Commerce.  The Cary Chamber of Commerce has been a leader in supporting education in our community through numerous programs and activities. The COVID-19 pandemic has only highlighted the great importance of a teacher's role in our society.


The nomination is super easy! Think of a teacher who has made a real impact on students. All you need to do is answer one question:  Why is this Green Level High School teacher deserving of this award? Nominations must be submitted no later than Friday, March 26th at 5:00 pm. These nominations will then be narrowed down to finalists that will be interviewed by a designated committee. Staff Gator of the Week Nomination


This school year, we created a tradition to showcase one teacher for “Staff gator of the Week.”  We are seeking nominations from GLHS students, staff, and parents.  Please use this form to nominate a GLHS staff member for "Staff Gator of the Week!"  Your email address will be recorded when you complete this form HERE!


Meal Benefits Applications


Parents, please consider applying for meal benefits by March 1. By submitting a qualifying application, families will also support the district in qualifying for additional funds to support students and learning! Also, the NC Department of Health & Human Services will soon begin collecting free and reduced lunch data from WCPSS to determine families that will receive additional Pandemic Electronic Benefits (P-EBT) that will be issued in the coming months! By not applying for these meal benefits, you will miss the opportunity to receive direct P-EBT funds for your family!

Yes, meals will still be free for all students through June 2021 but we still need you to complete a meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for this extra funding next year. Pre-Act Information for Sophomores


We will offer the Pre-ACT to any sophomore on March 24. This exam is not required, nor is it mandatory.  If you are a sophomore and are interested, please complete this form no later than March 5, 2021, so that we can get an accurate number of who all plan to take the exam. Please note: additional details are still being finalized by the district and the school. It is our hope that we will be able to communicate more with students through their Wake email and additional school platforms in the upcoming weeks.




Calling all members—we encourage you to attend our General Meeting on March 10 at 6:15 pm. Our monthly Business Meeting will follow at 6:30 pm.   Information will be available on the website and in our newsletter on how to attend.


The PTSA is excited to share new spirit wear available to order now! We will be at school during lunch for the next three Thursdays showcasing our spirit wear.
