Ms. Merritt Flexman

About: Washington Elementary initially welcomed me as a long-term substitute, which gave me the opportunity to experience the caring school climate and creative curriculum offerings its magnet status encourages. Now I’m a proud member of the specialist team, providing general music classes to K-1 and a variety of music electives. My personal music education began at the age of 4 in Delaware. From piano I moved to playing the flute in band and then through a music education degree at UNC-Chapel Hill and recently, graduate classes in Orff-Schulwerk. My teaching experience ranges from K-8 general music and band in public schools to ages 4-80 in private settings and for my own children too. For all students, I want to emphasize that music can be created and enjoyed by everyone at any age. Music and learning are for a lifetime!

Alumni: UNC Chapel Hill
