Principal Malik Bazzell
Malik Bazzell has been a professional educator for 17 years and a product of Wake County Public Schools. He graduated from East Wake High School and attended Fayetteville State University where he attained a BS degree in Social Studies Education. Mr. Bazzell taught Social Studies at Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, NC and Fuquay Varina High School in Fuquay Varina, NC from 1998-2003. In 2003, Mr. Bazzell graduated from NC State University with a Master’s degree in School Administration and started his career as a school administrator at Sanderson High School where he was an assistant principal for 6 years. In 2009, he moved to Washington, DC to become principal of Anacostia High School and returned to Wake County in 2010 to be principal of his alma mater East Wake School of Integrated Technology. While principal at East Wake School of Integrated Technology, Mr. Bazzell increased student college and career readiness and worked closely with staff members to raise East Wake School of Integrated Technology’s graduation rate from 69% to 86%. In 2015 Mr. Bazzell was named principal of Wakefield High School.
Assistant Principal Heather Acrey
Heather Acrey is joining the administration team at Wakefield after serving the Wakefield community for four years in our special education department. After three years of teaching in N.C. in various special education settings, Ms. Acrey relocated to Charleston, S.C. for four years where she worked primarily with students with Autism and moderate disabilities. Ms. Acrey earned her bachelor's in special education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. In 2017, she completed her Master's in Education Supervision and Administration at the University of South Carolina before returning to N.C. and beginning her career as a Wakefield Wolverine.
Assistant Principal Ryan Cummings
Ryan Cummings begins his second year as an assistant principal at Wakefield High School. Mr. Cummings, a Syracuse, NY native, earned a BA degree in Psychology from Syracuse University. He also earned a Masters of School Counseling and Masters of School Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Cummings began his career in the Wake County Public School System as a school counselor at Middle Creek, Panther Creek, and Wakefield high schools. His primary duty for the 2021-2022 school year is to serve as the ninth grade administrator.
Assistant Principal Michelle Gordon
Ms. Gordon has been in education since 2003, she started out as a special education teacher and general eductaion English teacher. She started in WCPSS 2012 at Sanderson HIgh School as the Alternative Learning Center Teacher. She then went on to serve the district as the lead high school interventionist for all high schools from 2013 to 2018. Her focus at Wakefield HIgh School since 2018 has been on relationship building with
students and parents, supporting students who struggle, and learning how best to support teacher's goals. She strongly believes that building a strong culture of community is all about The W!
Assistant Principal Dale Warren
Mr. Warren joined the Wakefield High School administrative team in April of 2022 taking over as an interim administrator when Mr. Curtis Harris became principal at Longview High school.
Assistant Principal Beth Keefer
A native of Danville, Virginia, Beth Keefer received her Bachelor’s Degree from James Madison University. She began her teaching career at Bartlett Yancey High School in Yanceyville, NC before relocating to Northern Virginia where she taught in Fairfax County Public Schools. In 2002, she joined the faculty at Millbrook High School, where she taught for fifteen years before graduating with her Masters of School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Keefer has been an assistant principal at Wakefield High School since 2019 and loves being part of the Wakefield Schools Community. She enjoys gardening, reading, and baking in her free time, as well as spoiling her dog, Lucy.
