Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Darrell Propst - Principal

Ohio State University - Master of Arts in School Administration
University of North Carolina at Greensboro - Master of Education in Elementary Education, Bachelor of Arts in English

I grew up in Morganton, NC, so the Blue Ridge Mountains always have a special place in my heart. I earned a BA in English and an MEd in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I taught 4th and 5th grades in High Point and Kernersville before moving to the Columbus, Ohio area. In Ohio, I taught 3rd and 4th grades for a few years while earning an MA in Administration from The Ohio State University. I enjoyed being a principal of a great school in Reynoldsburg, Ohio for nine years. Then I served Whitehall City Schools in Ohio as the Executive Director of Elementary Education.

My wife and I live in Carrboro now, and we love being back home in the Tarheel state! We are both very involved in church work and get our greatest satisfaction in serving others. Also, we love traveling. So far, I’ve been to China, Singapore, Norway, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. There are so many other places to explore, cultures to learn from, and foods to eat! We especially love the rich history, geography, and traditions of this beautiful state.

Grand Canyon University - Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with Elementary Focus in Reading

NC Central University and UNC-Pembroke - Birth through Kindergarten

I am excited to introduce myself to you as your Swift Creek Assistant Principal. During my career as an educator, I have had the opportunity to serve in several other teaching/leadership capacities: Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade, Intervention for K-5, Literacy Coach for K-5, Academic Language Coach for six Title I Elementary Schools in Wake County, Magnet Coordinator, and Assistant Principal.  These wonderful roles have helped shape my beliefs, experiences, and skills.

I grew up in North Carolina and currently reside in Raleigh with my husband and two teenage children. My son is 19 and is a Sophomore at UNCW, and my daughter is 22, attending Wake Tech Community College in hopes of being a Special Education teacher one day. I am a big family person, and we love going to the beach, traveling, going out to listen to my husband's band and laughing most of all. I also love ice cream (any flavor) and trying my hand at propagating plants that I find on my walks with our dog.

I am excited and honored to be a part of the Swift Creek Community!
