Meet the Team

    Katherine Cleland

Hello second grade families! I am excited to continue my work with the second grade team here at Reedy Creek! I have taught in three states: Massachusetts, Virginia and North Carolina. I taught first, second and third grade. Prior to teaching, I received my bachelor's degree from Assumption College as a visual arts major. I worked in art education publishing and graphic design. I went back to school and received my elementary education teaching certificate from Framingham State University. I moved to Raleigh in January of 2020 with my husband, daughter, dog, and cat. I grew up in Massachusetts, and love playing in the snow. I am happy that Raleigh has lots of sunny weather and warm days, because I enjoy walking outdoors and exploring new places with my family.

    Connie Kim

Hi everyone! My name is Connie Kim and I am so happy to be a part of the 2nd grade team at Reedy Creek! I was born in Seoul, South Korea and grew up in Asheville, North Carolina for most of my life. I graduated from NC State University with a bachelor’s in Elementary Education with a concentration in STEM. I love the outdoors and in my free time I enjoy hiking, watching movies, trying new places to eat, and playing with my adorable cat, Miso! I am looking forward to an amazing year together!

    Paige Kurwicki

I am Mrs. Kurwicki and I joined the Reedy Creek family in 2018. I grew up in the Midwest in Southern Illinois near the St. Louis area. Let's go Blues and Cardinals! I graduated from McKendree University in 2014 with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and taught my first year in 1st grade at a small school in rural Illinois. I then moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 2016 and taught kindergarten and 2nd grade during my time there. As much as I loved the Bluegrass state, my husband had a job opportunity that brought us to Raleigh in June 2018. I love living near the beach and you can find me there every chance I get! I don't have any children of my own yet, but I do have two corgi dogs (Stubby and Luna) who are my furbabies for sure! I like to read, paint, exercise, be outside, try new restaurants, travel, watch and attend sporting events, spend time with my friends and family, and cuddle with my dogs. I love pizza and coffee and firmly believe dessert is always the best part of every meal! This will be my sixth year teaching, and my third year teaching 2nd grade here at Reedy Creek. While this year may look very different, I am looking forward to another year teaching some great 2nd Grade Reedy Creekers!

    Heather Petrovich

Hello, families! I joined the Reedy Creek family in 2018 when I moved to North Carolina with my husband and our three sons. We are happy to call Apex our home! I was born and raised in a small coal town in NE Pennsylvania. As the oldest of four children, I spent a lot of time playing school with my siblings, even my newborn brother was part of my “class”. I always wanted to be a teacher but it wasn’t until after our third son was born that I pursued my dream. In 2015, I graduated from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Teaching is everything I hoped it would be and more. This year will mark my fifth year teaching and third year in second grade at The Creek. I am excited for another year of growing and loving my second graders!

    Katie Semanek

Hello Reedy Creek Families! My name is Katie Semanek and I am so excited to become part of the 2nd grade team! I have spent many years traveling the world and grew up in northeastern Pennsylvania. After college, I moved to New Jersey and then Vermont before I settled in lovely North Carolina. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science and Biology. My first career was as a Marine Biologist where I spent time living and working on commercial fishing boats surveying the amazing species found in the vast Atlantic Ocean. I decided one day that I wanted to share my worldly experiences with children and became an elementary teacher. I began teaching in 2014 in 2nd grade where I spent 4 years and then moved to 1st grade for 2 years. During that time, I earned my National Board Certification and am working toward my Master’s degree in Mathematics. In my free time I like kayaking, fishing, hiking, playing with my cat Simon, going to concerts and museums, reading and traveling. I am very excited to become part of this wonderful community that is Reedy Creek and look forward to working with and learning from all of you!

Hello Reedy Creek students and parents! I am so excited to be back with the Reedy Creek family this year! In the summer of 2019, I moved from San Diego, California with my husband, son, and three dogs. It was quite the road trip,  but we were so excited to get to our new home here in North Carolina. Since we’ve been here, we’ve become big fans of walking in the forest, bird-watching, and hanging out in the warm waters of the ocean (the ocean is never warm in California). I’ve been teaching since 2003, and recently finished my Master’s degree. Throughout my teaching career, I’ve taught every grade from 3rd through 6th — but now I’m finally getting the chance to teach 2nd grade, with the most amazing team ever! I can’t wait to learn and grow together this year.
