Principal's Message

  • Dear Reedy Creek Families,

In about two weeks it will be the first day of Spring! We start out this month with Read Across America where we will have students engaged in activities to promote reading. We cap off the week on Friday morning with guest readers for all classes. A flyer went home with how your child can participate with certain books and outfits during the week.

Our Spring Book Fair is the week of March 16th. Fliers with details will be in the students’ Tuesday folders, so please look at this information. Please support our Book Fair as the PTA provides us with proceeds from this fundraiser to up-date the books and resources for our Media Center and school. We will have a Family Night on Thursday, March 19th, along with pizza before our Family Summit #5, Wild About Reading. These sessions will help you support your child’s reading at home. Please come out and join us that night.

We will be practicing a drill this week for North Carolina’s Severe Weather Awareness Week and later on this month, a mock Lockdown drill. These are mandatory drills that require participation by all students in WCPSS. Teachers practice what students need to do in case of a tornado drill and shelter in safe locations. Our staff has been trained on important lockdown procedures. Practicing these drills is very important so that we all can be prepared in the case of an emergency. In addition, we conduct monthly fire drills and students know what to do and where to go. The safety of all our students is our number one priority each day.

As we enter the last few important months of school, we appreciate any support you can provide at home with reading and practicing comprehension with your child. Don’t forget to access our school website, http://www.wcpss.net/reedycreekes, for resources under Academics and Programs tab at the top and the Digital Resources at the bottom of the page. Students are often motivated to read on a device by accessing apps to read. They have school logins to access Big Universe and other Reading sites. Please also access our Dreambox site so that your student can practice and learn new Math concepts. Teachers need your support with reminding your child to complete Dreambox lessons. The lessons will definitely benefit your child to build their Math skills.

Spring Break this year is the week of April 6th. Monday, April 13th is a Teacher Workday. Students will return to school on Tuesday, April 14th. Our next big event will be our annual Spring Carnival on Friday evening, April 17th. Our PTA Carnival Committee has planned many fun and exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy. A lot more information will be coming out over the next month, so stay tuned. I hope all of you enjoy the beautiful spring weather that will be coming soon!

    Sincerely,

    Catherine Yanello
