Mr. Corey's Weekly Message - 8/30/24

CONNmunity!!!!

Happy Friday!  What great first week we have had welcoming students back into the building.  I could not be prouder of our 1st-5th graders as they have adjusted wonderfully to being back on campus.  Next week, Conn Magnet Elementary School of Entrepreneurial Design will be recognized by the State Board of Education (SBE) as a  North Carolina Prepared STEM School of Distinction!  We are so excited to receive this honor and it is a testament to the wonderful learning and instruction happening at Conn.

Yes! Yes! Yes!!!!! It’s time to welcome our youngest students to the fold.  Pre-K and Kinders, next week is all about you!  Below are reminders for Pre-K and Kindergarten families:

  • Meet the Teacher for Pre-K and Kindergarten is Tuesday, September 3rd from 11:30-1:00.  Parents, this is not a full day.  Kindergarten families, please bring supplies for your child with you when you come for ‘Meet the Teacher’. The purpose is for you to meet your child’s teacher and make final preparations for the first day.

  • The First Day of School for Pre-K and Kindergarten students will be on Wednesday, September 4.

  • Our fabulous PTA will be providing items and resources to bring comfort to you and your child for the first day of school.  We call it: “Tears & Cheers”.  Parents will release their student to staff at an established point and may wave bye.  Please note that parents will not be allowed to escort their child to their classroom.

  • Our school doors open at 8:45 and instruction starts at 9:15.  Please allow extra time to account for potentially longer carpool line for next few days of school.  During these first days, students are getting used to routines, remembering how they go home, their carpool number and locating their siblings from other grade levels.  As the year progresses, we expect that the carpool line will speed up.

  • Lastly, parents, don’t forget to pack rest towels and water bottles for the first day of school for your student.

I hope everyone has a great, safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend!

Mr. John Corey

Proud Principal of Conn Magnet Elementary
