Dear Conn Magnet Elementary School Families,   

Solar Eclipse: The 2024 Great North American Eclipse will happen on Monday, April 8, 2024. In North Carolina, the partial eclipse will begin around 1:58 p.m. and peak at approximately 3:15 p.m. when the moon obscures about 82% of the sun. Wake County Public School student and employee safety is of the utmost importance during this experience. Conn Magnet Elementary has worked collaboratively to allow all students K-5 an opportunity to view the eclipse. Information was sent home to families this week as well as from the district today. Please contact your student's teacher directly if you did not receive the information. Here is a permission form that only needs to be returned to your student's teacher if you do NOT want your child to participate. Please contact your student's teacher with questions.  

Big Idea Week Materials Request: Our annual Big Idea Week schoolwide experience will be the week of April 22 – 26. We are requesting the following items to ensure all our students have the materials they need to apply our IDEAS Design Cycle to solve a challenge that will change our world!  

• paper towel rolls
• toilet paper rolls
• small boxes (tissue, cereal, shoebox, snacks, etc.) 

Thank you for your support to empower our students to apply their creativity and problem-solving skills to make Big Idea Week a memorable and successful event for our school community. 

Kid Chef Guest Flavors: Conn Magnet Elementary has three Kid Chef Guest Flavors available at Two Roosters during the month of April. To celebrate, consider joining our CONNmUNITY on Thursday, April 11 at 4:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome! 

PTA Updates: 

The PTA needs YOU! We are looking for new board members and committee chairs for the 2024-2025 school year. No experience needed! Please reach out to president@connpta.org if you are interested or have questions.  

Please join us for a fun family-friendly volunteer opportunity! We'll be working at the Food Bank of Central NC on Capital Boulevard from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 to sort and pack food donations for our community. Spots fill up fast, so please register ASAP if you are interested. Note that both children and adults need to be signed up to volunteer, which includes creating an account on the Food Bank website.
