GLHS Teacher Appreciation Week

This week our teachers will be celebrated for the amazing efforts they put forth everyday for our students.  Thank you to the many families who donated to make these events possible.  Please take a moment this week to share your appreciation with teachers and support staff.  The Swamp is a better place because of each and every one of them!

 

Carpool Issues

Parents are expressing concerns again about carpool. Remember, you are the role model for your kids.  They watch everything you do. AP Exams are in the next two weeks, students CAN NOT be late to school.

Parents

  • Do not pick up students in the greenway lot, back lot near athletics or on the street
  • Please pay attention when to move up
  • Please do not block buses.  Blocking buses causes delays for middle and elementary schools

Student Drivers

  • Please do not park in the greenway. This is NOT a student lot.  If you need a parking space, please go to Student Services
  • Be safe, do not text and drive
  • Do not pass cars when there are 2 solid yellow lines

Student Walkers

  • Be mindful when walking! It is probably not a good idea to walk and text

 

AP Exams

The AP Exams are May 6 to 17. GLHS is administering 4,435 AP exams to 1,643 students. If you are taking an AP exam, students were emailed details regarding your AP exam time, location, and what to bring/not to bring to exams. In addition to checking your AP Classroom, we also created an AP Exam Website with up-to-date information that you can access HERE and from the Student Services website.

 

Digital Exams:  If you are taking a digital exam (AP World History, AP US History, AP English Language, AP English Literature, and AP Computer Science Principles ) you must come to the exam with a CHARGED school-issued Chromebook, updated to version 118 or higher and will be accessing the test through the BlueBook app. Please charge your Chromebook each evening. During the school day, access the school WiFi to ensure everything is updated.

 

AP Textbooks:  Students with textbooks must return them on the day of the AP Exam.  There will be carts for collection outside of AP Exam rooms.  They may also be turned into the library.  All textbooks must be returned no later than May 17.  The only exception is Calculus textbooks.  Teachers will give directions on when to return Calc textbooks.

    • AM Exam (326 students): English Literature
    • PM Exam (94 students):  Computer Science A

Two Parent Meetings

    • Last Class of 2024 Senior Activities Committee Meeting from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in Auditorium. This meeting will hold ALL info regarding graduation itself.
    • PTSA Meeting from 7:00 to 8:00 in the Auditorium

 

Thursday, May 9

AP Testing:

    • AM Exam (368 students): Environmental Science
    • PM Exam (485 students):  Psychology

 

Friday, May 10

AP Testing:

    • AM Exam (244 students): US History
    • PM Exam (113 students):  Macroeconomics
    • Due at Midnight (44 students): Art Portfolios

 

Do you play the Keyboard?

The marching band is looking for keyboard players. Students with any level of piano experience would be eligible. Please email Mr. Myers at bmyers@wcpss.net for information.

Volunteer commitments range from 2 hours per week to 2 hours per month.  Critical needs include President, Spirit Wear and Sponsorship.  A full list of volunteer positions can be found on our website HERE!  Please consider sharing your time and talents with GLHS PTSA.  There is something for everyone and we need you!

FAB News!

Step out & Check out

GLHS Visual Arts as they showcase work all over Wake County this month! 

    • 6 Gator students were selected to participate in Artsplosure, a juried art show in Raleigh with 620 entries. The reception will be held at PNC Plaza Lobby at 2pm on May 18th.
    • 15 Gator students have work represented at the Fine Arts League of Cary Teen Show hosted at Meredith College in the Frankie G. Weems Gallery. These students' works are up for Scholarships and Prizes!
    • Student work is also on display at WCPSS Central Offices at Crossroads!

Junior Parents

Immunization Requirement:

​North Carolina law now requires all rising 12th graders to receive a meningococcal vaccine booster before starting 12th grade. The vaccination must be done before the 2024-25 school year begins. Parents will need to provide a copy of their child’s immunization record showing proof that the meningococcal vaccine has been completed prior to the first day of school. This is a 2-dose immunization; the 1st dose was required in the 7th grade in Wake County schools.
