Principal's Message (9/26/21)

Mrs. Summers Returns to GLHS

We are excited to share that Mrs. Summers will be returning to the Swamp officially on Friday, October 1. Over the course of the next few days, she will be visiting campus to get a feel for things to ensure a smooth transition. We are so thankful for Mr. John Williams stepping in and serving as our interim principal during Mrs. Summers’ leave, and we hope that you all will join us in sharing your well wishes as his last day with us will be Thursday, September 30.

Picture Day on October 4

Fall picture day is scheduled for Monday, October 4. Click here for more information including pricing and package options. As a reminder to students, these pictures will be featured in the school yearbook as well as on student IDs and off-campus lunch passes, so please be sure to remind your student to have their picture taken regardless of your intention to purchase the pictures.

Virtual Academy students will be invited to complete their pictures during first period. Once we receive finalized details from the photographers, we will share out details with Virtual Academy families directly.

PSAT on October 13th

On Wednesday, October 13th, we will be administering the PSAT to 9th, 10th, and 11th graders who registered to take this exam earlier this month. Because this would not impact seniors, we wanted to give seniors a day to consider their next steps for their path after high school— whether it be attending college (community or four year), enlisting in the military or joining the workforce.

As such, we created Senior Prep Day! This is a day to visit a college, shadow a professional in your anticipated career field, complete applications or resumes, do a service project, etc. You can do this at home, in the community or here at school. To assist us in planning for this day, we ask all seniors to complete this brief survey:

COVID-19 & Returning to School

As a reminder, students must stay home if they are sick. Furthermore, individuals experiencing any symptom of illness not related to an already documented medical condition will be sent home, even if they don’t have a COVID-19 diagnosis. Students are also required to stay home and quarantine if someone living with them is diagnosed with COVID-19.

If your child or a member of your household has tested positive for COVID-19 or has been exposed, please email our COVID Coordinator (Mr. Darren Williams) via email at This communication is critical for us to reduce the potential for further exposure and spread. Furthermore, please be sure to reference important WCPSS health guidance for coming/returning to school when sick.
