Principal's Message (9/19/21)

Social Media & Smart Choicees

At this point, many of you may be familiar with the “Devious Licks” challenge that is making its rounds on social media (originally through TikTok). As a part of this “challenge,” teens film themselves destroying, stealing, or moving items within schools and other public spaces. This past week alone, a number of schools in Wake County and across the nation have been on the receiving end of this challenge.

To some students, many of these challenges or trends may simply appear to be simple pranks meant to get a laugh or a like on social media; however, this is not the case. We want our students to know that there are very real consequences when engaging in these types of acts, and sometimes not only at the school level. Any help that you can provide to reiterate this message and the importance of good-decision making (especially in relation to navigating social media and similar trends) would be very greatly appreciated. As always, we encourage students who see or hear things that cause concern to say something to a trusted adult.

COVID-19 & Returning to School

As a reminder, students must stay home if they are sick. Furthermore, individuals experiencing any symptom of illness not related to an already documented medical condition will be sent home, even if they don’t have a COVID-19 diagnosis. Students are also required to stay home and quarantine if someone living with them is diagnosed with COVID-19.

If your child or a member of your household has tested positive for COVID-19 or has been exposed, please email our COVID Coordinator (Mr. Darren Williams) via email at dwilliams7@wcpss.net. This communication is critical for us to reduce the potential for further exposure and spread. Furthermore, please be sure to reference important WCPSS health guidance for coming/returning to school when sick.
